Thomas Carter's Online Review Report Card

Dr Carter performed mitral valve repair on me in October of 2012. He is a surgeon I would recommend to anyone requiring heart surgery. He was very caring and explained everything to me and my family in terms we could understand, listening to all of our concerns. After my surgery he stopped in constantly to see how I was doing. Very kind, very knowledgeably.

Pops (my old guy) and his daughter and I (the primary caregiver) all adore Dr. C. He is caring and compassionate, makes decisions based on a real understanding of the patients character and lifestyle as well as the physical ailment. He has a very nice manner and personality and style (which Pops appreciated) to boot. In short, we would have lost Pops 3 years ago if he and Dr. Carter weren't such a good match.  I am unable to express in words the gratitude I have for this man and the memories I hold in my heart for giving me more time in Pops life. Thomas Carter is a wonderful doctor, all that a doctor  should be, and I thank him truly.

Moved back to San Diego one year ago.... it was time to find a good local Dr. for the long haul. Mission accomplished this morning with my first visit to Dr. Thomas Carter @ Scripps La Jolla. He was pleasantly patient (excuse the pun) as I read my list of concerns commonly shared among many of us in our mid fifties. He listened intently and gave me his honest perceptions with a simple rock solid plan of assessment and prevention. Great vibes from this Dr. He knows his stuff and he's super professional and 'matter of fact' with his recommendations. He also took the time to ask me about 'me.' What do I know about my health? What has my life been like the past few years? Where am I from? What do I do? The emotional well being was important to him as well as the physical well being. Feeling so relieved and healthy as an ox. Super comfortable with Dr. Thomas Carter watching over my good health for many years to come. Ready to take on anything and everything that comes my way. :)

If you are looking for a great robot that doesn't listen to you nor even care what you just said, this is your guy! I don't know what Dr. Carter these other reviewers saw but it wasn't the one I had the waste of time with yesterday! I am looking for a new primary doctor. His little "bio" says he is active in hiking, surfing, tennis. I guess I should have clarified whether he was actually engaging in the sport himself or watching it on television.I actually spent more time with his intern of the day who was really AWESOME and will make a great doctor. Anyway, I asked Dr. Robotico about his athletic endeavors and he asked me if that had ANYTHING to do with me being there, what difference does it make? Well, YES IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE! You don't take a broken NASCAR Sprint Cup Car to the local oil change place to have it fixed and a broken athlete does not go to someone for help that is NOT an athlete on some level other than the sofa.I've had a sore throat and fever since September 26, 2013. I had come down with strep throat and went through 2 rounds of antibiotics prescribed by the doctor who admittedly exposed me to the strep bacteria. Robot "Man" looked down my throat and said "There aren't any white patches, there is nothing wrong with your throat". HELLLLOOOOOOO! Of course, 2+ months later and two rounds of antibiotics taken, I'm not going to have white splotches in my throat!  Every morning I sound like some whiskey drinking cigarette smoking man and my throat is sore but NOOOOOOOOOO Dr. Robotico claims there is nothing wrong. He did not even take a throat culture to check for some cootie possibly living there.I had mentioned our cats. He said I am probably allergic to cats. I've been living with these cats for 18 years. The problem I am having did not start until September 26th with the strep infection. So suddenly I am allergic to our cats? He did not even take a throat culture, just told me there is nothing wrong with me and packed me off to the allergy department. REALLY? It's no wonder that, by his own admission, he has had patients threaten him and attempt to do him physical harm.He's got the personality and caring of a slug covered in salt. TRY A LITTLE HUMANENESS.(I'm quite certain he missed that class in school.)

In my opinion, Dr. Carter is the absolute BEST! Following my initial surgery, he twice saved my life -- literally. I would recommend Dr. Carter to anyone, and I have done so. His bedside manner is wonderful, and he always has time to answer my questions, even if they are trivial.

Great physician who takes the time to prepare for you as a patient, levels with you in every day language and takes the trouble to look for all root causes of a problem.  He is a very talented individual who understands the latest technology and trends and treatments.

Very solid. Easy to discuss any topics.  Easy to get appointment. I just hate paying for parking at Scripps.

So now I come to a point in my life where I am actually sick and I need to go to the doctor. I call to make an appointment with Dr Patay, only he isn't available and I need to get in right away because I need a note for work.  Can I see someone else?Enter Dr. Carter, to the rescue.  He's the opposite of Patay - thorough, precise, and always looking for the root cause of the problem.  Definitely my type of doc.  He is now my primary care physician.
