List of Alan M Speir's Reviews
Dr. Speir, is excellent and saved my life with a triple Bypass in August 1999. In my opinion there is none better in what he does. Very concerned with his patients, and puts you at ease with his professional and calm attitude. Just found out I have an Aneurism of my Aorta in my chest measuring 4.5 , although at 83 I do not like the thought of open heart surgery again, I am at least thinking about seeing him and getting his advice on " the way ahead". John Hay, Ashburn, VA
Dr. Alan Speir performed a 5x heart bypass surgery on my wife, Fannie Parker Widener, at the National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, MD June 1995. She has had 5 stents since then. Her cardiologist at Wake Med can't believe she is doing so well on her annual cardiology check up. She feels so fortunate that Dr. Speir did her surgery 24 years ago.
I am here because of him, I owe him everything and trust no one more. He is both brilliant and kind.
This man, Dr Alan Speir is a god send! I can't say enough about him. he had done my husbands aorta valve replacement in 2011 and it was good. My husband started having symptoms of uncomfortable feeling in his chest with other symptoms and went to Sentra Hospital thinking it was only minor like UTI but he got transferred to Fairfax Hospital and found out he had a blockage in left artery and he was their to console him and ended up doing a double bypass and probably save my husbands life. We are so grateful that this procedure was completed my this doctor. I think I was numb thru this experience but this was above and beyond from this experience with this doctor. THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
Met Dr. Speir for a consultation prior to surgery and was surprised at how genuine he was. He professionally explained what is damaged and how to repair the arteries and valve. I had a similar surgery 3 years ago by a different doctor and the level of interest in my procedure and recovery was completely different. I realize the risks involved and I am fortunate to have a world class surgeon performing my operation.
Dr. Speir performed my valve replacement surgery in May 2018. He is an outstanding surgeon, but you will probably never see him again following surgery and his pain management during and post hospital discharge is unacceptable. If you are okay with tramadol and Tylenol 4- days post op and upon discharge, then you may be fine. I had minimally invasive open heart surgery with half of my sternum sawed open.
If you are okay with tramadol/Tylenol for pain management upon discharge, great. His staff told me that was all they could prescribe and that I should go to a pain clinic for something stronger. Unacceptable. He just sawed open half of my sternum!
AFTER CHECKING OUT HIS CREDITS, I HAD NO FEARS ABOUT HIM CUTTING ME UP AND GIVING ME A NEW AORTIC VALVE.
I had a quad bypass performed by Dr.Speir on 09/11/2008. Plain and simple, Dr.Speir is the best heart surgeon ever!!!
Dr. Speir saved my mother's life twice with open heart surgery. He is the best I am thankful to him everyday. My mother is alive today after having a aorta repair and bypass. God bless him he is truly a blessing.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
