List of John F Hamilton Md's Reviews
I'm writing for my mother. Dr. Hamilton removed a tumor located in the brain. My mother has no problems. The surgery was done in May of 2018. Mr. Hamilton is a genius. A man from another world. He opened your skull and removed a tumor then you can walk out of bed in 2 days. Then, go on with your life. Hands down! No more words! Drop the mic! 9/18/2022: After 4 years, i'm back writing another comment. My mother's tumor came back but Dr. Hamilton did it again. All good. My mother is in recovery now. Thank you Dr. Hamilton.
Dr. Hamilton is a Godsend. He’s a very patient and exceptionally knowledgeable person who takes the time to explain things to me in terms that I can understand. That’s a true gift!! He genuinely cares and is a good listener. His nurse practitioner, Jessica is exceptional. The entire staff is very professional and will do any and all things to help you get great care. I highly recommend Dr. Hamilton to anyone seeking a kind, compassionate, and brilliant doctor. Thanks to him, I am looking forward to returning to senior softball.
I was in horrible pain for more than a year and a half. Dr Hamilton saved my life. Spinal fusion and now the pain is totally gone. I am forever grateful for his amazing work.
Hello, Dr.Hamilton is the best doctor hands down.I feel blesses that God but Dr.Hamilton in my path. His professionalism and his humanity made me feel comfortable going in to surgery with him. A little back story I had a meningioma and effects were severe. I had an appointment with him and 3 days later I was having surgery. Now I’m 6 months post-op and feeling great it takes a long process but I’m 95% recovered and working towards 100%. He was the biggest blessing I’ve had. I will always be thankful with him and his team. Hope you guys read this and chose him as your Neurosurgeon.
Dr. Hamilton did good work with the spinal surgery but unfortunately showed little interest in post-operation issues. Six months after surgery, pain was still intense at times, but Dr. Hamilton showed little concern. Finally, we got a second opinion from a well-known neurologist associated with a different hospital who was very attentive and explained the reason behind the chronic pain.
My first visit was a joke. Most of the time was with his staff. When he came in he gave the impression of a middle age burnout. His explanation of my spine MRI was vague at best. The lack of concern and professionalism was disturbing.
This doc was highly recommended, performed a stimulator implant on me in thoracic region with bone cutting, etc. then gave our bare minimal pain meds from hospital and would not refill after 3 days. My regular doctor, thank god, took over a few days later but at that point it was too late. I was way too far beyond the proper 'pain line'. The horrible trauma of the surgery combined with extreme low pain-relief resulted in a ER visit and admission for 2 weeks with CRPS brought on by severe trauma. Stay away from this guy, he does not have a 'light' surgical hand nor proper training in how to avoid serious trauma. My view was confirmed by the spinal surgery and the spinal pain teams at GWU Hospital. It took about 6 months before I could walk and years before my life resumed back to a 'new' normal. DO NOT LET THIS DOC TOUCH YOUR SPINE
He operated on my 78-year father. Two back-to-back surgeries were planned for some reason. My father describes in his journal an appointment with Dr. Hamilton that left him humiliated. For surgery #2, left Dad in the ICU with no food/water for 15 hrs b/c wouldn’t set a time certain and took him up at 1 a.m. like his schedule was a cattle call. Then decided Dad was too weak to operate. Dad got aspiration pneumonia and Dr H minimized his illness to family (the pneumonia was treated by a different doctor). The ICU doc was clear my father would never regain lost higher brain function or recover. We withdrew life support and he died less than 2 hours later. Hamilton called my sister the day Dad died to YELL at her, saying he could have had a tracheotomy, as if that were even the point. Heartless, unclear, and made my father suffer in his last days. The surgery was very risky and Dad knew it, but Hamilton acted like my father was a spine with a human being only incidentally attached.
Dr.Hamilton removed a 6 cm meningioma from my brain. MRI revealed the tumor on Monday, Tuesday he removed it during a 8/9 hr surgery. Post MRI showed that he got all of the tumor out of my brain. I know he did a great job! I've quickly recovered back to 100%. A Great surgeon!
I first saw Dr. Hamilton's name listed as my primary doctor when I was in the hospital for 2.5 days with 3 compression fractures. He never actually saw me in person and I was given inaccurate information by those I did see regarding what to expect in the coming weeks. When I hit those time frames, I became worried and scheduled a follow up with him in office. I had my second visit with him 4 weeks later (6 weeks out total). At both, I had an excessive wait (45 min & 1 hour) with no apology/acknowledgment for wasting my time in which I had to take leave or find coverage at work. When I did see him he spent very little time talking to me about the implications of my injuries, what my healing process would look like, concerns with additional pain in other locations, etc. The second apt. lasted 3 minutes total with him in the actual room! My spinal injury was not one resulting in surgery, and I felt it was clear that I was very low on his priority list because of it. It felt as though my case was not "interesting" or "severe" enough for him to spend his time on. While that may be the case for him, for me, it is still a spinal injury that has basically halted my entire life. You would hope that your doctor treats you with kindness and the slightest bit of empathy in such a situation. In case his bedside manner wasn't bad enough, at both appointments, intended or not, Dr. Hamilton actually made comments belittling my career choice.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
