I would not recommend Dr Ryan. I think if anyone feels the need to use him make sure they have all the details on what he plans to do with their loved one before the surgery and the plan for the recovery. He preformed a major surgery on my Father and did not anticipate some of the issues he encountered. He also was not present nor available in the days after the surgery all while still being listed as the doctor in charge of my Father’s care. It took another surgeon calling INoVa to get Ryan to even pay attention to my father and our family even as my father was clearly declining in the hospital after surgery. By the time Ryan decided to take a meeting with my family my father was on intense life support after suffering stroke and having several surgeries even after the initial surgery. My father died while in his care and I would not wish that on anyone. This is not the man you want to do your surgery not the hospital I believe would perform the necessary checks to ensure a doctor like this preforms his job properly and equitable amongst his patients.

Dr. Ryan literally saved my father’s life. My dad at 88 was diagnosed with a type A aortic dissection. This was an unfortunate rare complication of a valve replacement surgery done at an outside hospital several days earlier. 100% mortality rate if untreated. As a physician myself (and with two physician siblings as well) we knew that chance of successful surgery was not the greatest given his age and condition. A more senior physician had declined to take the case due to the Low chance of success. Dr.Ryan agreed to take my dad to the OR. The eight hours in the OR were the longest of my life and I was certain I would never see my dad alive again. Dr. Ryan came to speak to us after the surgery as though it was no big deal and it was just another day of being a life saving hero for him. Although my dad is still in the hospital with a long road ahead if him, I will never be able to thank Dr. Ryan enough for what he has given me and our family.

I would highly recommend Dr. Ryan. He is a very skilled Heart Surgery who is very knowledgeable in his field. He and his staff go above and beyond in every way! Dr. Ryan answers questions, doesn't rush with his patients and the followup care is outstanding!!!

I was turned down for surgery by two other hospitals. He didn’t even flinch. If you want small talk, he is not your guy. If you want someone who can do almost anything in an operating room and who will fight for you, he’s definitely your guy.

Fixed my dissection. Only met him a couple of times but I’m alive and well. Can’t argue with results.

Could not be happier with procedure done. Went from a 20% ejection ratio to a 50% ejection ratio. To say the least this triple bypass was highly successful. The entire staff an INova Heart surgery staff from he moment I was admitted to when I left did a terrific job.

Amazing results from triple bypass went from 20% ejection to 50% which cardiologist says is almost a miracle. Thank you Dr. Ryan I appreciate all you have done for me.
