It is IMPOSSIBLE to get through to the main number. I have called numerous times to schedule an appointment and finally give up each time after being on hold for half an hour. Calling the main neurology number goes NOWHERE.
GRETA DOCTOR for the past 5years!! I RECOMMEND they hire better NURSES and Medical Assistants because Im sure he has NO CLUE how terrible they make him AND the office look. Very poor communication over the phone, in person and ON PAPER.
So, I started seeing Dr. Kurakumbi in 2013, or 2014, because of my epiIlepsy. I thought I had actually found a doctor, whom I thought I could trust. Until, January, 2016. January, 2016, he told me that I needed to go to detox. So, I did. Well, I had been honest with him about everything, that I could remember. Well, about the end of February, beginning of March, I then was hospitalized at the hospital he works at. He had them hook me up to an EEG machine, to see, why I'm continuing to have so many seizures. So, a week after the testing, I'm discharged. So, I go home, and I'm reading my hospital disharge paperwork. Now, this is where he made a lot of actions, that you're not allowed to do, towards your patients. So, sure enough, while I was reading it, it had said that I had, had a few seizures, and of course, it tells me that I need to get plenty of rest. Right about that time, I get a text from my sister, telling me that she and I needed to talk. Apparently, he had told me that I had, had a few seizures, then told my sister that I needed to go to rehab, and then told my mother, that I hadn't even had any seizures, and that I don't have Epilepsy. So, because of that, my sister tells me, that I can't see my son. Well, thank GOD, I had my discharge paperwork in front of me. So, I took a picture of it, so that it showed the dates, and the times that I had, had the seizures. Well, so, I tried forgiving him for that. Well, then in April, 2017, I notice that the left side of my head was swelled up, and asked what could be causing it. He told me not to worry about it. Then, fast forward to about February, 2018, my head is still swelled up, and I start having falls, mainly at night time. So, I told him about that also, and I also have pretty bad headaches, to where, he starts giving me nerve blocks. Well, here it is, now 2019. My head is still swelled up, and the falls at night have increased tremendously, and my headaches have gotten like 10 times worse. So, I had an appointment with him, and this was my last appointment with him, Thank God. All he did, was stick his head, in the patient room I was in, didn't ask how I was feeling, just asked if I wanted the nerve blocks, didn't ask how I was feeling, then when he came into the room, I was mad, pointed at my head, because, it was still swelled up, and I said, why is my head swelled up, it's 2 years later, and my falls have increased dramatically, and this can't be normal. He puts his hand on his hip, and says, just trust me. It's okay. So, that was when I decided to go, and get a second opinion. Luckily, I did. At the new neurologist, at our first appointment, I find out, what the swelling is from. It's from cranial bone bruising. That's what has been causing the swelling on my head, ironically the side, they did my brain surgeries on to be swelled up, and between her, and my GP, they were able to figure out the exact medications, to help me. On top of that, when I had tried telling him about the falls I had been having, he didn't order any testing, nothing to see, why I was falling. Well, THANK GOD, my new neurologist, actually did. A lot of my falls I had been having, was because of how low my iron was, and my seizures. My new neurologist called me, this past Wednesday, and told me that I needed to get to the nearest hospital, that my iron was Detrimentally Low. My iron had gotten down to 5, and my hematocrit was super low. I ended up, having to receive 3 blood transfusions, and of course, I was hospitalized. All of this could've been prevented, if my old neurologist would have listened to me, and cared enough to actually do testing to, see what's causing me to have all of these falls. If I hadn't gotten a second opinion, and continued to see my old neurologist, he could've killed me. That's why I say we, ourselves, are our best patient advocates. I still love INOVA Fairfax hospital. But, I will never see him again, and I'd advise fo
I should say it was Good. But than I have no one to compare him with. He does take time to discuss issues but pushes responsibilities to Occupational therapist and Neuropsychologist. Who are unable to give timely appointments to get back and see him for further clarifications.
Nothing but great things to say about my doctor. He put me on a new anti-seizure medicine that improved my quality of life hundred percent. I also asked him what else I could do to improve my memory issues, and he gave me excellent advice. I did what he suggested, and, again it improve my memory situation 100%. I drive an hour and a half to get to his office - Totally worth it.
He listened to me attentively and was very thorough in explaining test results. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
I can't say enough about Dr.kurukumbi.!.he is an excellent doctor and a wonderful person. Superior knowledge and great personality. Thank you for who you are !
This Doctor is the best, my sister has epilepsy for over 15 years , more than 10 seizures every day, this Doctor was her angel, we will pray for him every moment of our life.
I've seen my fair share of neurologists, including some of the top ranked in the country, and Dr.Kurukumbi is hands down the best. He's patient, brilliant, and goes above and beyond for his patients.
Very bad never saw atmosphere like that before. Rude and carless staff. Wasted our time.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
