List of Paul E Savoca's Reviews
My mom is extremely happy with her recent surgery (i.e. Da Vinci XI robotic laparoscopic left colectomy) by Dr. Savoca. My mom had been symptomatic for 2-3 years. A few weeks ago a larger cancerous tumor was discovered in her left side colon during a colonoscopy. The tumor was so big that the GI doc could not get past the tumor with a pediatric scope. The GI doc, understanding the urgency, had a different surgeon call us for surgery consult. This other referred surgeon we met said it could take up to a month to schedule the robot surgery at the hospital. A week later, after still waiting for the other surgeon to call us with a date, we sought Dr. Savoca for a second opinion. Given the large size of the tumor and high risk of complete blockage, Dr. Savoca understood the urgency and called the hospital while we were at his office! The next day my mom did pre-surgery testing all setup by Dr. Savoca’s office. Two business days later she was in surgery at the exact same hospital that the previous surgeon said would take up to a month to get scheduled! It has been exactly a week since surgery, and thus far my mom is healing as well as expected for an elderly patient. She has been walking around completely unassisted and only feels slight discomfort at the incision area where the dissected colon and tumor was removed. I am seeing significant improvement each day and very happy with our decision to use Dr. Savoca. If we did not seek him out, we would likely be still waiting for this surgery.
Dr. Savoca made time in his schedule to see my husband who had a cancerous tumor completely blocking his colon. Within a week of meeting with him, Dr. Savoca made time to operate on my husband, who is home four days later in minimal pain. Dr. Savoca is knowledgeable, extremely skilled and an incredible surgeon. We feel very blessed to have been recommended to him (by Dr. Lasner). He took his time to explain the problem, surgery, outcomes. He was confident that my husband would do well, and it is true. After the surgery, which went pretty late into the evening, he sat across from me and took the time to make sure I understood my husband’s experience during surgery. He also visited my husband every day to check on him. Dr. Savoca saved my husband’s life.
I visited Dr. Savoca about possible surgery two years ago. While he wanted to do some follow ups, I never heard from his staff. They did reach out to make sure they had the info to bill me! I recently needed to see him and after two months, I was informed he no longer handled my type of case. When I asked why I wasn't informed of this two months ago, they had no answer.
Writing this review with my husband 'Dave Lewis' who is sitting here with me. He was just in Dr. Savoca's office yesterday for post op. Yes, Dr. Savoca didn't see him but his assistant got him out of there in 5 min as it was a simple suture removal, not sure why the other guy was whining about needing to see the doctor. He had a pilonodal cyst removed and experienced no pain after surgery. Literally didn't even have to take a single pain pill. Dr. Savoca was comforting and reassuring when explaining before the surgery even joking with him to ease his nerves (as per Dave who I am dictating this review for). Nurse who walked him out was sweet and all those at office and surgery center was friendly. One more post op and he is good to go! 5 Star Review as start to almost finished has been a great experience.
Dr. Savoca evaluated me for perforated divertilitis, pelvic mass, and colosalpingo uterine fistula. Once medically optimal, I was scheduled for a colonoscopy, then for a robot-assisted left colectomy in conjunction with a total hysterectomy. From the beginning Dr. Savoca's evaluation, ordered preparations and successful laparoscopic colon resection without a colostomy were exactly how my case should have been handled - lay opinion notwithstanding. I felt (despite my issues) that I had hope, a lifeline for improved health and longevity. His instincts have been spot on, his preparations for every aspect of his practice precise, his skills as a surgeon, unparalleled. His crack team of Physician Assistants, Nurses, Techs, and Schedulers ensure quality care at every level. My experience (5 days from my procedure) has been optimal. My recovery has progressed by leaps and bounds--optimized by exceptional surgery and pro-active post-operative care. I cannot praise Dr. Savoca enough!
I am so blessed to have had such a brilliant surgeon as Dr. Paul Savoca. Not only is he a highly competent surgeon but is also a thoughtful and compassionate. A true doctor indeed. Dr. Savoca is also an excellent communicator. When discussing my cancer diagnosis with me, he explained in detail the minimal robotic colorectal surgery he would perform to remove the cancerous mass. He also told me of the temporary ileostomy I would need and further after care that would be required. His attention to detail in our discussion made me feel I could trust him completely and am so glad I did! My follow up care has been regular, kindly and attentive. I cannot thank him enough!
Dr. Savoca is a great doctor! He's very understanding and listens to your concerns. He takes time with his patients to help them with their health issues. I am a long-time Crohns disease patient, and on many occasions, you are hospitalized with the disease. At my sickest, with malnutrition and internal bleeding, Dr. Savoca saved my life. Today, I am living my best life, and I am no longer suffering. Knock on wood; I haven't tested positive for Crohn's disease since 2006. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a colorectal surgeon. Jennifer
After multiple trips to the Emergency Room and other surgeons it was Dr. Savoca who immediately identified my issues and quickly worked with me to resolve it, then took great care in following up during the recovery period and follow up appointments after that. Couldn't recommend him more, an absolute professional.
Dr Savoca saved my life by his great skills in colorectal tumor excision using latest technology in robotic excision of ugly colorectal tumor , i love his spirit to comfort my fear assure me that i will be in good shape , i did the surgery 3 month ago , and now in chemo, thx God he was able to remove this ugly tumor form my body and was very aggressive to get rid of it . thx again
Dr. Savoca's resentment of patients is only surpassed by his staff's at office and surgery center. He sold me on a surgery for which he provided no pre-op information and proposed painful and unhelpful prep. He then left me, in pain and pressure from prep, for 2 hours after planned operation time. he explained, when I let him know of my discomfort and concern, that, "it is what it is." This was complemented by one of his surgical nurses stating to me that I was "not special" when noting my discomfort with the pending surgery. Post-op, while heavily drugged, I received scant post-op advice, which was actually counter to my health due to my condition, from yet another angry and rude nurse who rushed me out as it was closing time (due to my 2 hour delay). Dr. Savoca, when called to submit my prescription, was hostile to my wife. While there were occasional efforts to provide me with more advice after surgery, it was always followed by failed promises to follow up and annoyance when I reached out again. The final interface was at my follow up appointment, at which time I was, without notice, told I would have another procedure that day. When I declined to sign acceptance of that procedure until talking to the doctor, the nurse stormed off, leaving me for another 30 minutes alone without information. I am left with new pain and discomfort, little relief from the original condition, and a refusal by his office to provide my records to another doctor.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
