Dr. Merkel is a great doctor and diagnostician. It's hard to get appointments with her, because she is in such high demand. I made an appointment with her several years after she helped my husband with a difficult diagnosis. Unfortunately, she didn't seem to take me very seriously, something I've found as a woman. Although I don't think she gave me the level of care that she gave my husband, I've become used to that kind of discriminatory treatment as a female professional able to compare notes with men. She's still a good doctor, if not the doctor for me.

A few weeks after seeing this doctor, I realized I needed a refill on a particular (routine) medication. I had simply forgotten to ask for the refill at the time of my visit. She would not call in the refill, but wanted me to come in for another visit.

Dr. Victoria Merkel is my greatPCP. The only problem, it is hard to get appointments because she's very popular, otherwise, she's a good listener and will address concerns quickly and professionally.

I've been a happily satisfied patient of Dr. Merkel's for years. There's only one drawback, and that's that she is incredibly popular and appointments book up to three months in advance. But if you're looking for a family doctor, especially a woman to do your yearly gyn exam, she's perfect. I've never had a doctor this gentle, and her nurse is equally kind and competent. The practice thinks of everything, from speedy checkins with polite, professional staffers, cloth (not paper) exam gowns, instantly faxed prescriptions (no need to wait twice at the pharmacy) to nature photos on the ceiling of the gyn rooms. In short, the best doctor I've ever had.
