I was a patient of Dr. Derner. I saw him for bunion surgery for my left foot. The first surgery did not take and I had to undergo a second one where he stripped the metal plate in my foot while trying to remove it. He did not seem to think it needed to be corrected. This was at least four years ago, and since then, my foot has a high arch, due to the plate still being in foot. As a result, I am unable to wear any ‘regular” shoes as they cause discomfort. I recently went to see another foot doctor who requested a copy of Derner’s surgical report. Since August 2023, I have called Derner’s office requesting a copy of that report, and all I have been met with are responses that their system for old patients is down and therefore unable to retrieve records. I was given no indication of when this issue will be resolved. In addition, his staff representative was rude and short, making me feel as if I was asking for something that his office cannot provide. I tried to find out when this issue would be resolved and I got nowhere. I left a voicemail message for a manager and have yet to hear back. His reputation appears to be overblown and I am not happy with him or his staff. This is the shabbiest treatment I have received from a doctor. This is not sour grapes. I am merely letting you know that I have encountered bizarre issues that, frankly, should not be an issue in the first place - obtaining my surgery report. S

Derner is an amazing doctor who cares about his patients and a great surgeon as well. He was the 4th doctor to see an injury and the only one to correctly diagnose and correct it. He also did a very clean job on his stitching and the incision looks like it will heal far better than previous surgical scars. Can't recommend him enough

Dr. Derner is one of the BEST foot and ankle doctors out there. I have had two bunion surgeries it went so well that I recommended my friends and family to him. He really cares about his patients and takes his time to listen to your needs and concerns. He has a great bedside manner and is very funny too. I highly recommend him!!!

Dr. Richard Derner is the best ankle specialist/ surgeon out there. I've had 3 surgeries with him for varying degrees of ankle dysfunction and you can barely tell I've had surgery. His PA Sarah is awesomeness and the staff and other doctors in the practice are great. Always a good experience.

Dr Derner was able to repair a previous surgery that has allowed my husband to be able to walk. What more could anyone ask for from their doctor! He is wonderful.

Wonderful! Everyone is really friendly and helpful. They explain everything that they’re doing or will do. Dr.Derner is great! He went over everything in detail so I didn’t feel in the dark about my procedure. Dayana and Brian are incredibly wonderful. They went above and beyond to help me every step(or limp) of the way! They really tried (and succeeded with flying colors)to make sure you’re comfortable at every visit. I can’t thank them enough. This facility has the best staff and really do try to make this experience as painless as possible. If you have to have a procedure done, this is the place to do. Love it here!!

Had ankle replacement surgery on 5/3/2017. Three (3) months later I walking around our National Mall. After a short while, I glanced at my walking app on my phone and couldn't believe what I saw... I had walked 4 hours 27 minutes and a total of 17.7 miles!! Since 1975 when I fractured my ankle in 3 places, I was unable to walk for more than 5-10 minutes without suffering excruciating pain. Thanks to Dr. Derner, I can now walk more than 1 1/2 miles daily and I'm completely pain free if or the first time in over 42 miserably painful years!! Thank you Dr. Derner, you're the best!!
