O'Brien gave me a Cystoscopy with no anesthesia because I was having difficulty urinating. It was Extremely painful. His nurse rubbed my back during the procedure, which was Extremely humiliating. Went to another urologist who told me he would've given me general anesthesia before doing a Cystoscopy. O'Brien also prescribed a huge bottle of some antibiotic to relieve my enlarged prostate. (I later had BPH surgery--using TURP--that was NOT done by O'Brien.) The antibiotics did nothing except make me feel tired. I stopped taking them after about a week and never went back to O'Brien.

Dr. O’Brien and his nurse, Tina, have taken great care of me. He has successfully treated my bladder cancer and prostate issues. He takes the time to explain the treatment and prognosis. Outstanding practice.

Dr. O'Brien is one of the best doctors that I've been to for two primary reasons: 1. He takes the time to fully explain the situation using props and diagrams and he takes time to discusses possible treatments. 2. He and his nurse, Tina, make a great team. I always feel that I'm getting competent care when I visit them. Their bed-side manner makes uncomfortable procedures much more tolerable. I feel, too, that the diagnoses and treatments have been accurate and the right course for my challenges. I will continue to see Dr. O'Brien, since I view his practice as one of the best in the area.

My experience was that Dr. O'Brien will perform a surgical procedure without ever speaking directly to the patient. In my case he relied on one of his his partners to provide appropriate pre-operative consultation and counseling. This never occurred and lead to an undesirable outcome in my case. After the fact, the adverse effects were just shrugged off as inconsequential. Regardless of his skills as a surgeon, Dr. O'Brien needs to put more effort into communication with patients.

Seems to have decent ratings, but I got a bad vibe from the receptionist, who wasn't inclined to be helpful with questions. And the first appointment was a month out. I'll look somewhere else.
