List of Chana Rivka Foster's Reviews
I have had excellent experiences with Dr. Foster. She saw me through my second pregnancy and delivered my child. In my experience, she is patient, thorough, and always listened.
I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Foster for my pregnancy and birth of my second child. I found Dr. Foster to be attentive, knowledgeable about every aspect of my medical history and status, and incredibly capable. I valued the research she did for older moms and trusted her to make the best decisions for me.
All the reviews here confirm my experience after the fact. The office and doctors need more training or Dr. Foster purposely orders tests to make a greater profit. I called other offices and they wouldn't have had we do a test for at least 8 weeks. This office had me do approximately 4 tests within a very short window.
Foster is a nice enough doctor. Her personality is not the issue. She performed my sons circumcision and we are now contemplating having a revision done. One of the other doctors from the practice did my first sons and his was fantastic. My second sons is awful. It has looked awful ever since it was done. The pediatrician thought it should be ok but now that he’s 9 months the pediatrician said to contemplate a revision. That’s how bad it is. If she’s the on call doctor when your son is due for his circumcision I would 100% tell them you don’t want her to do it. The reason I’m giving her 2 stars instead of 1 is that she is a fine enough OBGYN. Not my particular taste in doctors but she’s very nice and knowledgeable. So I didn’t think a 1 star was fair and I understand that she didn’t go to school to perform circumcisions (I think it’s ridiculous that the OB does them in the first place) but still, it is one of her responsibilities now and she needs to get better. UPDATE: My son just had his revision completed at 11 months. It looks great, what a circumcision should look like. And now we won’t have any issues with adhesions or other things that arise from a poor circumcision (or for that matter, no circumcision at all). HOWEVER, it cost us 3k. Now, I am so happy that my son won’t have issues in the future but this could have been avoided altogether by having an adept doctor perform his circumcision in the first place.
First appointment: Nov 10. Last appointment: Jan 10. Two months of no results and indifferent/condescending care. Dr. Foster seemed only concerned about asking HER questions, not mine (I'm 41 and have had two children biologically, and work in public health research that focuses on maternal and child health - so I have a smidge more knowledge of issues that women face with their gynecological health). Dr. Foster is not interested in talking to you about your concerns or questions, or establishing a rapport. She spent 75% of the first appointment pushing Mirena/IUDs on me - which I did not ask for! At today's appointment to follow up on the persistent issues I first saw her about (I scheduled the appt - they clearly didn't have a protocol for following up to see if patients were well after treatment), I was again asked twice about IUDs! I'll say it loudly for those in the back - I'm not interested, especially when I am not sure why I'm experiencing the symptoms I am and why medication

I'll say it loudly for those in the back - I'm not interested, especially when I am not sure why I'm experiencing the symptoms I am and why medication isn't working! I was made to feel like an idiot because I insisted that certain components of a test I had asked her to do for our first visit did not show up on the results in the patient portal. They printed the results they had on their side and the results/tests I was seeking were there. However, on the Healnow app they use for the patient portal, only the roll up information is included, not "sub-level tests." And yes, I clicked through every potential subpage possible and called Healnow for navigation help but no results were posted beyond the roll up. The doctor's office seemed to be clueless about this, and I guess still are. I called the office 2x and they reassured me that I was tested but how was I to know when those specific tests were not included in the patient-side reporting? Part of my work involves developing patient portals and reporting systems, and a current client IS Healnow, so I think I know how it works. Of course, I didn't mention that today since she had already brushed off my attempt to let her know that I'm familiar with how these systems work.I also had difficulty in obtaining the initial antibiotic she ordered, and called her office 3x to leave messages to ask to switch to another pharmacy. No response from messages left for the nurse, so I had to wait 3 weeks for CVS to get it in. Some treatment for an active, acute infection!Today I went back because I'm still having significant concerns over an ongoing UTI which has been completely apart from every other UTI I've had in my life (not frequent at all - maybe once every 3-5 years). Again, I was talked to like a child and then told to find a urologist! When I got a little teary I was handed a stack of paper towels. Ok, I'll wait another two months to try to find answers when if you had just listened to your patient's verbal needs and other signals on Day 1 -two months ago - we may have had more answers by now.She also pushed genetic testing at my first appointment but today when I indicated that 4 genes had come back with mutations, she acted as though that was not something for her to monitor or help me navigate next steps (the "worst" mutation was for an adrenal gene - outside of her wheelhouse, just like bloody urine I guess). The other three were mutations of unknown significance - all gynecological (my grandmother died from ovarian cancer) - and she sort of just shrugged it off when I asked if that merited additional monitoring from her, my OBGYN. All that $ and pushing tests on me for this to be my conclusion two months later? I'm puzzled, peeved, and going back to Kaiser (another client - my firm does all of their patient satisfaction surveys!) , where something called "coordination of care" is actually a thing. It seems that this office or doctor has a set idea of what to push on patients (maybe by age group, etc.) and any questions or concerns are dismissed. $30 copay to be told something I already knew two months ago (this is no ordinary UTI or whatever is masquerading as one).In summary: UGH!
If you see her for your pregnancy be prepared to have a c-section. She walked into my labor room without even looking at the screen she was convincing me that I might have to go for C-section if things don’t go as expected and yes she suggested pitocin for no reason and voila things didn’t go as expected and she took me straight to C-section. Prior to walking into labor room, my water broke, my cervix started dilating and pains have started - everything was going by the book but this doctor turned things around and forced me to go into c-section by prescribing pitocin to the nurse to offer it to me without giving me enough time for me to go into active phase of labor on my own. One simple advise - Just avoid this facility altogether. On another note starting from 38 weeks check up this facility doctors were suggesting me to schedule a induction and repeatedly reminded me to do that even though i had time to let things happen on it’s own as this is my second pregnancy. Just avoid them!
The 1 star is not for Dr Foster. She is very kind but not sure if she is still in the process of practicing and learning since she is young or she is actually experienced. I had 2 consultations with 2 different OBGYNs after I saw Dr Foster and they both told me that they would have waited a week for my second ultrasound rather than doing it the next day and suggesting surgery right away. She was in a big rush for some reason. One of the worse experiences of my life at this doctor in their Reston office. I will never go back to this group again!!! SHAMICE, the billing manager, is a HEARTLESS person who is lazy and doesn’t care about any patient as human beings and their health! After calling their office and asking for billing a few times today, SHAMICE the billing manager called and I said I’ve been waiting for your call and she said: I had more important things to take care of before calling you!! WHO SAYS that to a patient in pain??? How heartless and cold could you be??? Karma isn't kind SHAMICE!!!!! Most of the staff in Reston office are cold and don’t care about anything but seeing patients and getting them out of their office. Dr Foster had them put an order in for me for an ultrasound and they never did. By the time I got to my appointment in Sterling, they told me I need a doc order and it was never sent, by then their office was closed and I had to keep calling their emergency line to get my order. They sent the wrong one but the radiology people were kind enough to help me anyways! Very very disappointed as my friend had recommended me Dr Hersh and unfortunately she can’t deliver babies and much so I couldn’t see her and after that, it was all downhill at their offices. Heartless staff that all they care is about making their Money and going home! They want to you to keep going in so they keep billing you and billing you!! So sad!!!! Never going back again!!!!
I still like Dr. Foster, so this is an FYI if you need a mammogram, you might want to ask for a screening mammogram as opposed to a diagnostic one. My insurance will cover screening mammograms, but I'm fighting for the diagnostic one and Dr. Foster prescribed a diagnostic one out of an abundance of caution. I'm still fighting insurance, but if I don't win I will have to pay $470 when I should have just gotten the screening, then if there was a problem upgraded to the diagnostic.
