Jae Y. Lim's Online Review Report Card

Visited for a back surgery. He did very quick cursory job and recommend another subsequent surgery to an older patient when the outcome was not good. He keeps insisting on more surgery. It sounds to me like he is after making a profit by performing multiple surgeries, without any quality of service provided.

I am so grateful that I was referred to Dr. Lim. He and his entire staff have been top-notch. They are incredibly helpful, friendly, and informative. Six months ago, Dr. Lim performed a disc replacement that has been a huge success and led me to a pain-free neck after years of problems. They have been very on top of my aftercare and I have felt like they truly care about my health and well-being. Cannot recommend this team enough.

Atlantic Brain & Spine is an outstanding medical practice. Dr.Lim’s cervical spine surgery seem to go extremely well. I have already experienced considerable relief from my prior condition in less than three weeks from the date of surgery. Meghan, a highly knowledgeable nurse practitioner, takes the time to clearly and patiently explain what the surgical process will be like; how the surgery went post operatively; and everything you need to know about the recovery process. Peter, the surgical coordinator, is the heigth of efficiency in scheduling your surgery and a multitude of other office and hospital visits. Gigi, the receptionist/administrator, is always friendly and efficient — and always answers the phone! On a scale of 1 to 10, ABR gets a 10! I have already recommended the practice to a couple of friends and family members. You will be in good hands with Dr. Lim and his team. They view themselves as a boutique practice, and they truly are – giving patients the highly individualized attention and care they need.

Dr. Lim was recommended to me by a friend who had a similar disc replacement. His staff was accessible, friendly, and always helpful. Dr. Lim is a very talented surgeon and I would certainly visit him again if needed. That said, I am not happy with his lack of communication before, during, and after the procedure. During each appointment, he was very abrupt and reluctant to go into details unless I pressed (explaining my MRI, disc replacement process, possible risks/complications, etc). Immediately after my surgery when he called my wife to tell her the procedure was over, he verbatim said "the surgery is done". No comments on how it went or if there were/weren't any issues. At my first post-op check in, he walked into the room, showed me my x-ray, and said "there it is, looks good". The remainder of the appointment he was silent, forcing me to ask questions regarding my lingering pain that he abruptly dismissed. He is very talented, but his communication is sorely lacking.

I heard about Dr. Lim from a friend when I was being seen/treated elsewhere for problems with my neck that required surgery. When I researched Dr. Lim, seeing his incredible background and credentials as well as his position as the Chief of Neurosurgery Trauma at Reston Hospital Center, I thought I had to see him. During my first appointment/meeting with Dr. Lim I knew if I was going to proceed with surgery, he was the surgeon that I wanted to perform it. In that appointment, he took the time to review all my records, describe exactly what was going on in my neck, (including the fact that it would not improve, but only get worse over time), fully explain the procedure and what was involved in a 3 level ACDF, and how it would correct the problems I was having. He told me to take my time to think about everything and let him know what I decided to do. Although I was seeing Dr. Lim at this point for a “second opinion”, he took his time and made me feel like I had been his patient since the beginning of this ordeal. He showed me incredible understanding, compassion, and concern for what I had been going through and gave me hope and confidence that the issues I’d been dealing with could be arrested and significantly improved. There is no other surgeon I would trust or recommend for spine surgery than Dr. Jae Y. Lim. He is a gifted and talented surgeon and he has a great bedside manner. Meaghan (his NP), Peter, Robin and Kyleigh exude professionalism and concern. They are extremely responsive and available when it comes to answering questions, scheduling appointments, and assisting with all types of paperwork and forms. I highly recommend Dr. Lim and his incredible staff at Atlantic Bain and Spine.

I wish I could give Dr Lim more stars as he has a nice, well-meaning bedside manner and the surgery he performed on me was for the most part successful. However, my overall experience as his patient was impacted by the care I received from his nurse and the staff at the Reston hospital. I had a terrible experience with the hospital and have learned they are owned by HCA Healthcare who has been alleged with terrible quality of care (just do a Google search on HCA). And unlike other reviewers, I found Dr Lim’s nurse Meghan to be completely unsupportive. Although Meghan had reassured me during my initial office appointment that she would check in on me before the surgery to go over any concerns I might have, she was a complete no-show before my surgery. I met the entire surgical team like the anesthesiologist and even Dr Lim made sure to stop by, but there was no sign of his nurse. She nor Dr.Lim never offered any explanation for her absence which was odd. Her lack of follow through increased my anxiety going into the surgery as I was concerned about talking with her about post surgery care and pain management. After the surgery, she seemed impatient and uncaring with handling my post operative care and could not be bothered to return phone calls. Meghan’s role is a critical one on Dr. Lim’s team, and his patients need and deserve a compassionate nurse. Dr. Lim deserves a higher quality hospital to perform his surgeries at and a more professional and supportive nurse.

My husband has been suffering from back pain for almost a year. He went through a few physical therapy and injections but nothing helped. So we were looking for a reliable surgeon and several people recommended Dr.Lim. I’m really glad we took their recommendation. Now, three months after the surgery, He no longer has back pain or leg numbness. Also, all the staff in the office is very friendly and always helpful. Thanks to Dr. Lim, Megan and Peter.

Dr. Lim gets a 10 for arrogance, 1 for communication skills and 0 for empathy. He wants you to follow his recommendation but is too imperious to be bothered with explaining how he reached his conclusion.

Dr. Lim is the ultimate professional and the surgical procedure that he accomplished with exact precision was just as he stated. I am on the road to recovery and I highly recommend Dr. Lim and his amazing team! Thank you so much for healing me,I feel Great!
