Dr. Schuler at Virginia Spine Institute is an exceptional surgeon who recently performed a spinal fusion procedure on me. From the initial consultation to the follow-up appointments, I felt like I was in the best hands possible. Dr. Schuler was incredibly knowledgeable and professional, taking the time to answer all of my questions and address any concerns that I had. During the surgery, Dr. Schuler and the surgical team were highly skilled and efficient, which gave me a lot of confidence in the outcome. The surgery was a complete success, and I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Schuler for relieving the pain and discomfort that I had been experiencing for years. The recovery process was also made much easier due to the care and support that Dr. Schuler and his team provided. They were always available to answer my questions and concerns and made sure that I was comfortable throughout the entire process. Overall, I cannot recommend Dr. Schuler enough. He is an outstanding surgeon who truly cares about his patients and their well-being. If you are in need of spinal surgery, I highly recommend him for the job. I am so grateful to Dr Schuler and his amazing team, I am finding it hard to find all the right words to share. I have been suffering with severe spinal stenosis for more than 10 years and when we first met in late October he said “we can fix this…. we can give you your life back.” And 7 weeks post surgery, that is exactly what he and the VSI Team have done. After my surgery, I have no words to praise Dr. Schuler and his staff high enough. The methodic process, the quality of the service, the expertise of all members of the staff, and the passion for patient care makes this health care team “hors concours” - A class on its own. Dr Schuler and his entire team are amazing!!! After 5 weeks of intense and excrutiating pain, I got to meet him at VA Spine Institute. After only 2 weeks and 4 steroid injections later my pain level came down significant. With PT hopefully improving more, I am truly happy! I haven’t been in such a friendly , supporting and caring physician’s office ever before! Dr Schuler’s knowledge in his field is unparalleled!!!

Exceptional experience from start to finish. 4 level cervical disc that were causing pain and numbness in my left arm, shoulder and neck are now gone. While there are a few areas that are sore from the surgery, they are improving daily. I cannot say enough about how great both Dr. Schuler and PA Thao have been. I highly recommend Dr Schuler and his team to anyone with disc and nerve issues!

If you're suffering with neck or back issues, stop reading this review and make an appointment with Dr. Schuler at the Virginia Spine Institute (VSI)! You'll thank yourself later. I had severe cervical stenosis that was causing pain and numbness to radiate down my right arm. After failing to improve with multiple conservative treatments, I was told by two other surgeons that I needed a fusion. Before I was willing to accept that, I decided to make an appointment with Dr. Schuler at VSI. From the front desk staff, the techs, the PAs (Thao, in particular) and, of course, Dr. Schuler, my entire experience was better than I could have expected! If I had it to do all over again, I would have gone to VSI in the first place! I'm sure that all the surgeons at VSI are great but I can't speak highly enough of Dr. Schuler. He listened patiently to everything I had already been through, explained his treatment plan (two-level artificial disc replacement) in detail and he answered all of my questions. Coincidentally, he's not only a fantastic spine surgeon but he has a couple of artificial discs in his own neck and a fusion, as well, so he can relate to what his patients are dealing with! I left the initial appointment very confident that I had found the right surgeon to fix my problem. Unfortunately, my insurance company's response to the pre-certification request for the artificial disc replacement surgery was to deny coverage. Dr. Schuler was on vacation at the time that this occurred and I was worried that my surgery would end up having to be delayed (or worse). But several days later, I received a call from the surgical coordinator at VSI who told me that Dr. Schuler had obtained approval for my surgery through the insurance company's appeal process! He took time out of his vacation to do this which almost certainly prevented my surgery from being delayed. I don't know how many surgeons would do something like that but I can tell you that I was very appreciative of it! Two and a half weeks ago, I finally had a two-level artificial disc replacement surgery with Dr. Schuler and I've been amazed at how quickly I'm recovering. I was up and walking just a few hours after surgery! Six days later, I was no longer taking narcotic pain medication and rarely even needed Tylenol. I still have full range of motion in my neck, no neck pain, no arm pain and while I do still have some residual numbness, it has only been two weeks since my surgery and nerves are very slow to heal. Obviously no surgeon can guarantee an outcome but if you need surgery, you want the very best surgeon you can find and in my experience, you can't find a better one than Dr. Schuler (and his team) at VSI. I can honestly say that he has given me my life back. Thank you, Dr. Schuler!!!
