I saw Dr. William Kemp for low back pain. My wife and I were very comfortable with him very quickly. He was extremely thorough with listening, questions, testing, and his findings as well as options. Surgery was scheduled quickly and it was extremely successful! Cannot be happier with Dr. Kemp and his ability as well as the whole staff at VSI! I would definitely recommend/refer Dr. Kemp! Thank you!

Dr William Kemp did a fusion and laminectomy for me. I was very apprehensive about the surgery. He spent time with me, explaining the problem and the procedures and answering my many questions. Both procedures went well. When I was in the hospital, he checked on me every day. He is a skilled and compassionate doctor and has excellent PAs working with him

I highly recommend Dr. Kemp, great results from my neck surgery, minimal pain and fast recovery. Dr. Kemp cares about his patents. He has improved my quality of life.

(May 17, 2023) My first appt with Dr. Kemp was at the end of Dec 2022. At my request, Dr. Kemp performed two planned Surgeries at the end of Jan 2023. I had severe (in my opinion) Spinal Stenosis issues. Both surgeries were very successful. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Kemp to anyone requiring his type of services. At the first appt, he spent 1.5 hours with my wife and I, and conducted a thorough exam related to my concerns and pain. During all appts, I never felt rushed, and all questions were answered with patience and understandable explanations. Dr. Kemp did not rush me to surgery, rather we discussed all options. It was my choice to have the surgeries as soon as possible, and Dr. Kemp accomodated my wishes to the best of his abilities and availability of support staff. To ensure he had all possible information related to my condition and health prior to the surgeries, he ordered further MRI's and tests, and even assisted in obtaining outside appts in near time when I couldn't. Following one procedure on a Friday, he took the time to call me on Sunday to check on me. During my week in Reston Hospital for the two surgeries, he came by several times in between to see me. My wife also thoughly highly of him, and was very appreciative of him contacting her immediately after each surgery with an update on my condition. When asked, he always took the time to explain. I will add that at age 73, this was my first time in a hospital and first surgery. Dr. Kemp could not have been a better doctor/surgeon for a nervous first timer like me. All the little extras mentioned above, combined with his skills and experience make him a "top doctor" in my book. If another back/spine related surgery is required in future years, I will be seeing Dr. Kemp. Also, Dr. Kemp's (and VSI's) nursing and admin staff are outstanding. What sticks out most was their responsiveness, which is the best I have ever had dealings with.

I saw Dr. Kemp as a neurosurgical second opinion and I'm so glad I did. I had been having back and leg pain for years. He spent time with me, examined me, explained all of my imaging, and came up with a good plan to treat my problem. We tried non-surgical treatment first. This helped, but didn't take care of all my pain. We decided surgery was the next best option. Surgery was successful and now I'm pain-free for the first time in years. I am so grateful to Dr. Kemp for his skills, time, and compassion. I highly recommend Dr. Kemp to anyone suffering with neck or back issues. Thank you to Dr. Kemp and the Virginia Spine Institute!

High praises for doctor Kemp. He completed a 3 level lamenectomy for me and I am now pain free and have no neuropathy. His follow up care was exceptional. I'm 81 years old.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Kemp! First time I have ever had any issues with my back and pain thru-out my right leg! I was so lucky to call the VA Spine Institute and have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Kemp. Immediately , Dr Kemp spent time with me and thoroughly explained some of the thoughts he had concerning my pain and immediately ordered an MRI. Dr Kemp was with me through out the entire process and surgery was a success. Great communication throughout the diagnosis, surgery, and recovery! He is an outstanding doctor and makes you feel so comfortable answering all your questions! Dr Kemp is a smart, educated neurosurgeon and I highly recommend him for all your spine issues!

Originally, I went to see Dr. Kemp as a second opinion. After an extensive interview and examination by the doctor I determined he would be my first choice for surgery. His care and treatment plan for my back far succeeded any other information or care plan I had received. Explanations were very thorough, option plans reviewed; when my wife and I left his office all of our questions were answered and we knew exactly what to expect for the surgery as well as my postoperative recovery. Dr. Kemp saw me at least once a day, every day that I was in the hospital. He and his staff treated me as if I was the most important patient they had. Not wishing to need any surgery again, haha, but I would not hesitate to return to this physician. I have already recommended him to others. Dr. Kemp, thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me my life with a pain-free "Back".

Recently had a 5 hour spinal surgery with Dr Kemp of VSI. From pre-op through surgery and post-op, he has been highly professional and always with a calming influence. This goes for his whole team also. The surgery was long and complex and it is evident he excels in his chosen profession .

Dr Kemp was professional, courteous and eager to answer all your questions. That said . . He's also the kind of guy you want to out with for a beer !
