List of Mahdere Asfaw's Reviews
I am updating my review with 3 instead of 1 star. My TSH level got lower than I have ever experienced it on August 31, 2022. I experienced heart palpitations, weakness, nausea, and headache that didn't go away with headache medication. I had to leave work early. Since I was near Stafford hospital, I stopped in Dr. Asfaw's office to schedule an appointment. I told them what I was experiencing but they told me the soonest appointment was October 6th and I should go to the hospital to be treated right away. I went to a clinic to be seen because it's easier on my budget. The doctor at the clinic ran tests and said I was having heart issues and elevated blood pressure and that I need to see a Cardiologist as well as the Endocrinologist, and on top of that a Neurologist for the headaches. I messaged Dr. Asfaw directly on the Mary Washington patient portal to let him know how low my TSH level was, how high my blood pressure was, and how I've been feeling as well as not being able to get in to see him until October 6th. He made an exception to see me September 2nd first thing in the morning. I got my blood work done right away and Dr. Asfaw called me by early evening to tell me he'd reviewed my results and sent a prescription to my pharmacy. Within an hour from that time I picked up my prescription. I think this office just needs either a better system for scheduling appointments or to hire more front desk people so the phone can be picked up more often and messages received *Original 1 star review August 2022: I have been attempting to get an appointment scheduled here for a little more than a week now. They didn't call me to let me know they didn't receive everything they needed when they first received the referral- I called them after not hearing anything for a day or two. Then I was given the wrong fax number to send the rest of what was needed. I think they gave me the correct number to send the information to yesterday, and my doctor's office sent the information while I was on the phone with them so I know it was sent. I have tried calling several times today with no luck and I left a message once. Nobody calls back. This is my first bad experience with a Mary Washington office. Considering I have not been feeling well lately due to my condition, I think it's important for me to get an appointment scheduled.
Meds had expired over lockdown. Was told I would need to make an appointment before they would renew perscription, which was fine. They said once I had scheduled my appointment they would issue a temp. perscription to cover me until my Aug. 10 appointment. In the interim I was called back to my job which had been closed down since April 2020, starting date was on my appointment date. I called to reschedule the appointment. Was told I would have to wait until October for the reschedule. One of my meds was renewed. However, the other was not. When I called for the extension they said they couldn't do it. I would have to now wait until October! I will be out of one of my meds in four days. The doctor is on vacation and I'm stuck with no recourse.
nothing but good experiences with this doctor and his staff
I was admitted to Mary Washington Hospital last year and Dr. Asfaw happened to be the endocrinologist assigned to me. I am so grateful to have had him as my Dr. and for the thoughtful care and time he gave me while diagnosing my unusual thyroid illness in the hospital and for the continued follow-up care in the year afterward. His calm demeanor made a very scary illness manageable as he took time to explain any tests needed and the treatment plan necessary to treat me. I never felt rushed in my appointments, and he was always very responsive to any questions or concerns I had via phone or the portal. Very professional medical provider. I have a high level of trust in him as a provider and highly recommend him to anyone needing an endocrinologist in the area. I was so sad to have moved out of state and would absolutely come back to his practice if I move back. Thank you Dr. Asfaw!
He is an awesome Doctor. He listens to me, always has the best treatment plan, an make me laugh when I'm not feeling well😁
I wish that I could rate them more than 5 stars! I was greeted by Dr Asfaw who was already aware of my anxiety from my thyroid per my patient form. He sat and spoke with me about my experiences, and listened with compassion and genuine concern before we began. His warmth and understanding eased my mind as he explained, step by step, what I would need to do .I have had a few appointments since, and was met with the same warmth, compassion, and care. I would definitely recommend Dr. Asfaw for anyone undergoing Thyroid problems
I got a chance to see Dr. Asfaw for Graves disease. He was recommended to me by a patient who had seen him before . He was extremely helpful and listened to my symptoms to diagnosis properly . He educated me a lot more than what I knew going into his practice and left happy and certain that I was definitely going to have him as my doctor . I highly recommend him to everyone that needs an Endocrinologist. I had seen several Doctors before seeing Dr Asfaw and I have to say he is excellent !!!!He cares!!!!
Being diagnosed with Type Diabetes, Dr. Asfaw has been my doctor for years. He listens intently, addresses my concerns, and answers my questions without regard to a clock! He helped me get my cholesterol well under control (161) and to get my triglyceride level almost within range (down 165). He worked with me to provide options to very expensive medicines and he is typically right on top of refill requests. On top of it all, his front office staff and nurses are very friendly and very competent. I will be moving out of state or I would be with him as long as it takes to reverse my Type 2 diabetes
I got a chance to see Dr. Asfaw for Graves Disease. He was recommended to my by a patent who had seen him in the past. I have to say he listened and explained my diagnoses thoroughly. I went to him for a second opinion but I was extremely happy with the way he explained my sickness. When I left his office after the first visit, I wanted to continue seeing him as a patent since he was professional, ,knowledgeable and patent enough to make me understand in simple words what I needed to do to get back to my normal self. I highly recommend him to anyone that needs an Endocrinologist. I have seen several Drs. but have to say DR. Asfaw was EXCELLENT!!
great bedside manners. Dr. Asfaw took the time to explain my diagnosis, associated symptom's and the various treatments and associated benefits.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
