Wonderful, professional and experienced doctor! I have been a patient for many years!
Horrible doctor. Let me go into labor and left me with a nurse. My baby went into distress and I needed to be given oxygen as my baby's levels were going down. The nurse was trying to get the dr in the room to get me into an emergency csection but he was too busy in the next room tending to a woman screaming due to labor pains but was not yet in labor. His delay in getting my child out was detrimental as 14 years later my son has had tons of mental issues with learning and developmental delays. This doctor was the worst thing to ever happen to me.
Dr. Adkins was my doctor for my pregnancy back 2005. When I started contractions early on in the afternoon, he came in and supposedly broke my water and put me on Pitocin to increase my labor. Only he should have known by the dry bed sheet that my water wasn't broken. Regardless, 12 hours and a lot of pain later I was in labor to which he asked the nurse to slow it down cause he was busy with other patients and wasn't ready. My baby started to go into distress because Dr. Adkins did not check to see if he was facing the right direction which he was not. Not to mention the baby was stuck. His heart rate started dropping and he wasn't getting oxygen. Twenty minutes or so later I was being prepared for surgery. By the time I had a C-section I went into shock and the baby had been in distress for over 30 minutes. Today my son is almost 14 and has short term memory issues as well as behavioral and psychological issues. If he wasn't without oxygen for as long as he was then I believe he would be a different kid. He was blue when he came out and was diagnosed with Asperger's at age 4. This doctor is the worst I've ever experienced or heard about.
I love Dr. Adkins. He's been my dr for many years now & always takes the time to talk to explain any treatment to me thoroughly, pros & cons
Love Dr. Adkin's, but not crazy about the staff. He is attentive, and takes time diagnosing your symptoms. He has taken extra time to discuss treatment plan with me and my spouse. He explained all the options for my treatment and allowed me to make an educated decision with his full support.
Handles patients like a cattle car! Does not spend time listening
Dr. Adkins delivered both of my daughters. He has a lot of exerience, a great bedside manner, and is great at reading you to know what level he should use to communicate with you.The single thing that impressed me most about him is that he is very good at following your personal wishes for your delivery, within the bounds of safety, and takes the opinions of the nurse who has been caring for you all day into account. I pushed for over 3 and a half hours with my first child. Most doctors probably would have had me in the operating room after 1 or 2. He doesn't rush things and doesn't schedule early surgeries or inductions to better meet his own schedule. The only suggestion I would have is that if it's convenient for you to see him away from the main Meade Pkwy. office, I would do so. The Meade office is a lot busier and wait times there can get pretty long. I've seen him at both Churchland and Smithfield and had much shorter waits at both locations.
This Dr. is very unhelpful. I saw him 3 times during my pregnancy. I started having contractions at 24 weeks and he had me hooked up to a monitor for 5 minutes. No contractions were recorded so he sent me home and said it was Braxton Hicks. He would not listen to me when I tried to tell him of my previous pregnancy history of preterm labor and never dialating. To make a long story short, those contractions were the beginning of early labor for me. A few days after that visit I went to the labor and delivery for placental abruption and contractions 1 minute apart. I spent 8 weeks on bed rest. I would not recommend this Dr. to my dog!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
