List of David B Mcdonald Md's Reviews
Wonderful Doctor. Very disappointing office staff. Dr Donald is wonderful , attentive to questions and provides a thorough analysis after the results are in. However . very disappointed with the service from his office. 1. after my results from the tests were in , his office just updated the 1st line from his notes as doctor's feedback. it simply said "You did have some abnormal lab results." when I called the office , the nurse literally complained "the doctor has provided a very detailed note .I cant type that whole thing. let me scan and attach the note". 2. I had 2 follow up questions which I messaged to the provider. Its been 1 week. Still no response from the Doctor's office.
I've met with Dr. McDonald on three occasions over the past 3 or so years. I was initially put off by his lack of warmth but he's a very thorough and competent doctor.
My experience was very poor. Dr. M. is a compulsive talker, like a machine, and asks many questions, often asked accusatorily, rather than in an inquisitive and supportive tone. There is no emotion in what he says. He assumes that the patient is doing something wrong. He is an extremely poor listener, not answering questions. On the phone his is an endless monologue, making it impossible to get a word in. Rather than being supportive, he implies that patient is not cooperating or is doing something wrong. His memory is poor even with a written record, He asks the same irrelevent questions each time. He does not form a relationship with his patient After he finished doing his job, despite his knowing I was to have surgery, he simply walked out of the room, without saying goodbye, uttering some common and appropriate parting words, or wishing me good luck with the surgery. He is deficient in the basic amenities. I will be changing doctors, and I would not recommend Dr. M. to anyone.
Did a virtual appointment, he was 45 minutes late and then cut me off and hung up on me literally in the middle of a question. I'll never go to him again.
I have been seeing Dr. McDonald for over 6 years now. Although it is true that he very seldom makes eye contact, he does listen intently and takes his time with every patient. I feel that with 40+ years experience, I'm in the hands of a very competent physician. So, just to set a realistic expectation for people who want an honest review: 1) He does NOT communicate through the portal at all....ever. 2) He will be brutally honest with you (no tiptoeing around the problem). 3) He will only prescribe "hardcore" pain medication in extreme cases, and only after trying others. As with any other competent physician, he will try to work on finding the cause and not just treating the symptoms. It is also highly unlikely that he will refill a prescription issued by a different physician if you are a new patient. In an extreme case (for example one of my specialists was on vacation) he MIGHT give you a few pills to tie you over. Expect your meds to change if he deems it unnecessary or overkill for the problem. If you are experiencing any type of chronic pain, I would strongly suggest you visit a Pain Management Specialist. They will offer a plan that involves both treatment and medication. 4) Expect to wait a little longer than usual. He takes his time with every patient. You won't leave feeling like a number. I hope this helps!! :-)
He does not do eye contact, he listens with his eyes closed, very unperson. Hard to create good patient/doctor relationships. Does not answer either online or phone questions.
He is clearly very knowledgeable. He doesn’t look you in the eye - very introverted. I wanted to feel a doctor/patient bond, but it’s just not there.
He was very judgemental. I was upset and felt bad when I left his office. I had moved to the area and needed to find a general doctor. I didn't like the fact I was defending myself to justify the medications I take. I have never had an issue and to top it off, he changed the prescriptions and dosage without talking to me about it. I found out when I went to refill and realized that I couldn't refill for another 40 days which put my health in jeopardy. I would not recommend this Dr.
Dr. McDonald is thorough, thoughtful, and mellow. He clearly has much experience, and asks all the right questions. Don't be fooled by his careful, methodical (relaxed) manner.....he's thinking about the whole patient...you!!. If you want a Doctor with decades of patient savvy, who listens.....thinks with insight... and writes it all down, this is your guy.
If you're looking for super speedy medical "care" that will treat you like a body count and get you in and out of the office as soon as possible, then I'd strongly suggest going elsewhere. If, however, you are looking for a doctor who will actually take the time to listen to all of your concerns, thoroughly review your medical history, and work with you to find the best solution, then you needn't look any further. It's been a very long time since I felt like I was speaking to a doctor who was actually listening. I would recommend to anyone without hesitation.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
