Online Reviews Breakdown
List of Potomac Urology's Reviews
Avoid this practice at all costs...they dont care about people they only care about making money. Its COVID season and they offer virtual appointments but dont have a way to pay for services online so they require you to give credit card information over the phone, per front desk receptionist Sonya. They even said if I dont give my credit card information over the phone theyre going to cancel my appointment and I would be forced to reschedule my appointment and come in to the office. Poor, poor, poor customer service and no care for customers.
I personally have had a good experience when going to the doctor Dasai myself. My mother referred me to him in the past and right now we are dealing with some medical issues for my mother. However, in the past 1 to 2 weeks I have had a not so satisfactory experience with this clinic. For one thing, my mother is homebound right now and the doctor apparently made a special exception to do a virtual visit with my mother. Her primary care provider has no problem providing online visits as much as needed; why does her urologist not do the same? I would expect that having gone through the pandemic, online services would be readily available. Today we had a follow up with the doctor online and this time he could not hear us very well because of background noise on his end. Why would someone have a virtual visit and not find a quieter place to have the appointment? A third issue, and perhaps the most pronounced issue of all, is the treatment I felt from his administrative team when trying to work out a situation with a prescription he wrote for my mother. Her Medicare insurance according to the doctor, does not cover the type of medication he prescribed. However, her insurance has what is known as a tier exception, meaning they can provide reduced pricing based upon the tier she falls under. It simply required a quick phone call between the doctor and her Insurance provider. That apparently was a hassle for the administrative team to take the time to get through to my moms insurance, which apparently they claim they do not have time for. DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR?!?! Are you serious?! Thats what we pay you for! Borrowing a hospital term, this is not what I would consider proper bedside manner. It smacks to me of a clinic that is understaffed and perhaps underpaid. The fact that the doctor had noise background during his online visit today also told me that they are behind in their work and/or understaffed or trying to bite off more than they can chew. If they cant handle that many patients, then just tell the newer ones that they cant take them any more and refer them elsewhere. It isnt fair to those who have been with the practice a while, to receive less than optimal treatment.
Wife got referred through TRICARE.For the first two weeks it was a constant game of the desk agents losing the TRICARE authorization, receiving it, not receiving it, etc. 2 weeks prior to appointment we finally received confirmation they had the authorization. They wouldnt schedule the appointment without the authorization letter faxed to them. It was faxed at least 4 times. 2 days before the appt they called to say they didnt have authorization. WHAT A PAIN. Then she gets seen and the doctor prescribes a medication that TRICARE doesnt cover. Ok, this happens sometimes. Doctor generously offers a coupon for $20 approx cost of medicine. Well, no pharmacy in a 10 mile radius carries this medicine. We call back and request a substitute. They tell us there is no substitute medicine other than a generic brand. Generic brand is $300 out of pocket with coupon! I really would not recommend this place for any TRICARE referrals. Please request a different urology clinic for your family.
Very frustrated because I waited 45 minutes to be seen paid $55 just so the dr can tell me in literally 5 minutes that he can’t do anything with out a CT scan, they could’ve called me to tell me this instead of me literally wasting $55 I’m basically just giving my money away at this point. They’re very inconsiderate!
I had bad experience with the staffs and doctor Dr Sing .
Was referred here due to a possible kidney stone. I was seen by Dr. Patrik Desai so he could evaluate an ultrasound scan I received earlier that day to check for the presence of a kidney stone. Dr. Desai did not read the notes from the ultrasound tech, and instead decided to look at the scans himself and determined there was no kidney stone. So he sent me to get a CT scan that cost around $500. It took me about a week to get the scan done, and once I did it came back clear. So I went back to my PCP for the next steps. First thing she does is pull out the notes from the ultrasound and says “Looks like it was a kidney stone!”, to my surprise. I asked her how could that be, the urologist (Dr. Desai) said there wasn’t one, hence the CT scan. She said he must have not read the notes because it was literally right there in the notes: “Kidney stone in upper right quadrant of left kidney”. Since then I have been trying to contact Potomac Urology and Dr. Desai about this because I now owe $500 for a CT scan that I never needed. It has been almost 5 months now with no return call, no communication, and no resolution. I’m at the point where I’m considering suing this place because they are literally giving me the cold shoulder. I’ve called almost every day. I’ve left voicemails. I’ve done all I can do.Absolutely unprofessional, and downright ridiculous how this place operates. Avoid at all costs, because it will cost you.
If you want to see a urologist who will treat you with compassion, heal you, and see your care through to the end, this is NOT the place for you. I made a Yelp account just to write this review, so I hope that this helps those looking to find a compassionate and effective urologist. I cannot stress enough how dissatisfied I am with the care I received at Potomac Urology. While the staff and nurses were great, the Dr. made it clear that he could not have cared less about me or my ailment. Going to a urologist is always a tough experience, but this Dr.s disregard for my health makes it the WORST experience with a Dr. Ive ever had. I have a mysterious urological condition. The Dr. performed some tests and procedures and could not determine what was wrong. Rather than help me come up with a plan of care, they simply pushed me off onto another Dr. There was no compassion form this provider. In fact, when I came in for my WEEKS in advanced scheduled procedure, the Dr. took forever to bring me back, which i was fine with. However, when I got into the room, he informed me that he had to meet his wife and would not be able to perform the very sensitive procedure. Instead, his colleague I had never met who knew NOTHING about my condition performed the procedure and consulted with me afterwards. I thought, surely MY Dr. will call back to apologize, make things right, and help me find a plan of action. WRONG. I called him and left a message and never heard back. Again, if you want to see a urologist who will treat you with compassion, heal you, and see your care through to the end, this is NOT the place for you.
bad experience with this group and its staff, I do not recommend it at all, patients should always be before the interests of this group and more when receipts for payments are not received And cancel the appointment for this reason
Let me start by saying my husband said the doctor and the nurses were great. THEY were not the issue. They are actually the reason this review is 2 stars instead of one.Moving into the issues, and boy are there a lot. Consultation was in December 2020, procedure scheduled for January. In January both of our kids got Covid (They were fine, husband and I never got it.) so we had to quarantine. Procedure rescheduled for February. We show up for the appointment in February and they ask for his negative COVID test. They NEVER told us we needed that. However, we had our negative tests from January. They wouldnt take those because they said it had to be within the last week. (Which is kind of dumb. Say we got the test on Saturday and it was negative, we feel fine and go to the procedure, then the next day start feeling bad and find out its covid. We were contagious while there, so why bother?) Regardless, they never told us anything and didnt seem to have a clear policy in place. Whatever. We reschedule for March. Come March he gets the test on Tuesday and his procedure is on Thursday. He got the rapid test which was negative, but the place also sent it off to get tested from Labcorp. Potomac Urology called Wednesday confirming his appointment. He confirmed and then they asked for him to fax or email his results. He told them he was at work and the results are home so he cant but he can bring it to the appointment like we were told. Thats not good enough and they want him to email it when he gets home so they have it in the morning before he gets there. Once again, changing their rules or policy. I call them and verify that they WILL take that test since it says negative, but they sent it off, right? They just say as long as it wasnt the blood test they will accept it. They called the place where he got tested and they faxed the results to them. Thursday morning we got the negative Labcorp results so just to be safe I emailed it to them. They call him Thursday to confirm again. He says yes, I will be there. Then they asked if he called our insurance to see what we will have to pay. What? Since when do we have to do that. He said no, he will be getting it done regardless so its fine. Then they ask if he wants to pay over the phone. Again, why? He will literally be there IN PERSON in a few hours. Then they asked if he was on his way. He said no because his appointment is at 3 and it was only like, 11am. We get there and they ask for his negative test. He tells them that 1. they got it faxed directly to them Wednesday, and also that I emailed them that morning. They couldnt find it so I had to resend it. They still couldnt find it. Apparently it went to spam. Now I thought spam was the first place you look when someone says the emailed you and you dont have it. .. but apparently not. Moving on they then tell him to pay $500. He asked me if that sounded right and I told him it was around that, yes, but usually we pay the COPAY, then they bill the insurance, and then we pay the remainder. They said there was no copay and the $500 is an estimate. Never in my life have we paid an ESTIMATE for a doctor, and not the actual bill. Apparently this is how they do it. Then he waits 20 minutes for the doctor (which is irritating, but not uncommon for doctors offices so thats fine) and they start. During the procedure they ask if he picked up the antibiotic and pain pills. We knew NOTHING about that. Apparently they sent it to our pharmacy in December but neglected to tell us. They said they would resend it. I call the pharmacy about an hour later and they received the antibiotic but nothing for the pain pills. They did see it was ordered in December and never picked up so they filled it, but apparently in resending things, they neglected to resend that. Basically, the doctors and nurses are good, but the office staff seems completely and totally incompetent. Not to mention they are rather rude on the phone. I think I spoke to one nice person the whole time. TL/DR: Doctors and nurses are fine. Front office staff is incompetent and rude.
I have an appointment for 3:00pm it is now 4:00 been trying to call for 30 minutes, I’m a new patient and have not even made it in the door yet! Ready to leave, been on hold for 15 minutes already no one has answered the phone yet, it is cold out so you have to sit in your car till they call you I assume, so running car wasting gas waiting! If this wasn’t an urgent matter I would leave now, I sure hope the dr is worth it ! I have never waited like this with an appointment!
