List of Spencer L Blackman's Reviews
Terrific Primary Care Doctor.I have seen Dr Blackman as my PCP for over 10 years. He is professional, knowledgeable and caring: a triple winner as a doctor! I'm a doctor myself and appreciate Spencer's availability by phone or email and his can do attitude. And One Medical is a great place for busy professionals!
Spencer was very personable, clear, and straightforward during my exam, and extremely responsive by email in several threads... including one before I'd ever met him in person. My experience with One Medical and Dr. Blackman have been nothing but positive.
Bad experience here--from the bedside manner, to the recommended treatment, to the gigantic bill I got afterwards. :(
Not incompetent, but doesn't think out of the box.If you present a perfect textbook case of symptoms, Dr Blackman would probably be a fine doctor. Unfortunately, if you have a complex health problem, this is not the doctor you're looking for.I have multiple obscure health issues, and after investigating the most obvious solutions, it was as if Dr Blackman lost interest in me. He was initially engaging and seemed sympathetic, but after his first couple of diagnoses didn't pan out, he stopped trying. This would have been tolerable if he had been courageous enough to tell me that he couldn't help me, and/or suggested I go see another physician, but he kept stringing me along with the "you need time to recover" routine. After a couple of months of this, I started seeking out new doctors on my own, and found another doctor in the practice who referred me to several non-mainstream practitioners (acupuncture, physical therapy, osteopathic manipulation) who are starting to make a difference. I can't help but believe that I would be much healthier by now if Dr Blackman weren't so conventional and unimaginative.
The first time and only time that I had a new patient visit with this Doc was a forgetful experience. The guy was unfriendly to me and non receptive. I do not recommend him or NVC.
I ended up having a lot of issues trying to get a prescription filled from him on a regular basis. The office seemed to also take over 2 months to get my records from my last doctor, which I was able to accomplish in a matter of minutes.I decided to try another doctor, who was able to acquire my records and didn't contest writing my prescription, all in a matter of a day.I gave him 2 stars because he gave me a few temporary prescriptions, and was "efficient" in the visits. However, is not a personable doctor, if that's your thing.
Just saw Dr. Blackman today for a quick appointment for a random issue. He was awesome! Felt 100% comfortable with my sensitive issue. I loved his lead-ins, for example,"Some more personal questions now. *smile*" "So, not to be graphic but..." Made me smile to know he was making sure I knew that he knew it wasn't the easiest topic. He did a great job of answering my 1,001 questions, like I always have for my Dr. visits. Very thorough, recommended a possible solution and suggested what to do if that didn't work. "Contact me if you need anything else." Exactly what the good... no, Great! Dr should say.Office staff at the Noe Clinic is always awesome too!
I went to see Dr. Blackman after getting a horrible burn. He was completely unsympathetic and rushed. I was really worried about scarring, and he dismissed my concerns. Then, he proceeded to wrap my wound so ineptly, that all the gauze fell off as soon as I left the office. At the end of the visit, he said that he would look into referring me to some dermatologists, but he never got back to me. It was pretty awful, and a complete waste of my time. Needless to say, I will not be going back to him for any type of care.Gave him one star for seeing me on time and another because the front desk people were nice.
Just another visit to my fabu new doctor. This doc is easy, pleasant, professional, & productive. The front-office people just call him "Spencer." Too casual for me. If you went through med-school hell, you deserve the reverential title of Medical Doctor. The Noe Valley clinic is still working for me. Giggling teenagers play rock music at the front desk. It's a little odd, but-- hey, whatever.
I am stunned at the care and attention that this doc gives me. It's almost unreal. The Noe Valley Clinic is very friendly and the same-day/next-day appointments are fantastic. The $150 fee to join is more than worth it. I would expect to spend much more to join this kind of a medical group.Like I always say, I didn't want to share my good find because I don't want them to get too busy to see me... but I have to write a review because they deserve it.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
