I was referred to Dr Backous about a year ago when I needed surgery. The doctor that referred me told me that he was among the best in his field. I'll have to admit that when I read the reviews at the time, they were so negative that I was nervous about meeting him and nearly requested a referral elsewhere before meeting him. I'm so glad I didn't.Dr Backous is a high energy, fast paced person with a great sense of humor. He also exhibits a lot of confidence that I found reassuring. He really did an excellent job on my ear and although he wasn't a warm and fuzzy doctor, he did make me feel like he felt doing a good job in treating me was important to him. You do need to speak up and tell him if you have questions for him - he doesn't seem to ask, but once you say, "I have a question about this" he does listen intently and answers your concerns. The clinic staff are also very friendly and helpful.I highly recommend him!

I really like Dr. Backous, he is very good at what he does and I couldn't be more happy with my results. If you want a Dr. that's going to sit and hold your hand and listen to your life's story, he's not that kind of Dr., but if you are light hearted and like to joke around like I do he's great!!!!! The nursing staff at the hospital were great, fun and we all had a lot of laughs. My results are great and I'm glad I had the surgery done!!!!!
Dr Backous saved my husband's life after a very scary, fast and furious discovery of what turned out to be a facial nerve tumor. He made sure my husband was in surgery as fast as possible. He and his staff checked in with me in the waiting room regularly throughout the 7+ hour procedure. It was a very scary time waiting. He was compassionate and straight forward. I knew what to expect when I finally saw him in recovery. He remained available to us night and day for the next six days of recovery in the hospital. He is very accessible to his patients. The initial surgery was in January 2012. My husband had a subsequent surgery Bone Attached Hearing Aid with Dr Backous in May 2013. Again, the level of care, accessibility and follow up was tremendous. We have spent a lot of hours of our life with Dr Backous and will continue to do so as monitoring of the facial nerve, BAHA site and tumor site will be necessary for the rest of his life. Dr Backous has watched our family grow and is very personable and funny. He remembers me, our children and especially my husband. He is professional, highly talented and direct. The "lack of bedside manner" other reviewers mention may be more the fact that they can't handle a no-BS doctor who is very busy and isn't going to coddle them. I would recommend Dr Backous to anyone seeking answers within his specialty.
I laughed a little when I read a couple of the reviews about Dr. Backous on this site. Here is a guy who has devoted his life to helping people with serious medical issues and is regarded as one of the nations finest for those who do their homework. Not every patient is going to hear what they want to hear from their doctor but is that really what you want? Medicine is about solving complex problems and finding viable treatment options. I took my wife to see this doctor after a series of scary disorders caused her to lose consciousness and found him to be nothing but focused and profoundly professional. He took a personal interest in the issues that she was having and pulled the cell phone from his pocket and connected us immediately with colleagues who also were top in their fields. Dr. Backous and his staff attack medicine in a way that felt cutting edge and refreshing. After seeing the doctors at the local clinic and getting the run-around with doctors who's offices are primarily billing clinics, we left with a viable plan for treatment that first rules out the dangerous causes and then attacks the probable ones. It's nice to know that you can still find doctors who's focus is on treating patients and providing rapid expert medical advice when needed. Oh and I should mention that the doctor saw us on what was supposed to be his day off where not surprisingly we found him at the hospital in between surgeries. Do your homework people!!!

I would definitely recommend Dr. B.
I really like this guy! See him and judge for yourself. There will always be poor reviews of good Doctors when patients expect miracles. He's done more than enough to go out of his way to help me with my treatment. Very confident and competent. I give him 5 stars.

All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
