All of these other reviews sound great but I had a very different experience. My situation is not straight forward and nothing showed up on imaging so when Dr. Kim said I THINK it COULD be a hernia I questioned it and her certainty. After that she completely shut down and took offense that I didn’t want to immediately schedule surgery. Her response was if you don’t believe me then go get a second opinion; no explanation of what a hernia is, what she feels in her exam, why she thinks it’s a hernia, how certain she is, my options, what surgery is like, what if I don’t do surgery, what if we do surgery and it isn’t a hernia. She is basically asking to do exploratory surgery, I have the right to question it. I finally got some of this information (but only as it relates to having the surgery) after I pushed through the awkwardness and asked more questions. Her tone changed when I asked her to explain the surgery but she seemed only interested in putting me on her surgery schedule, she kept saying it’s my choice but what I really felt was if you aren’t having the surgery here is the door. I mentioned I’m trying to have a baby and still no detailed information, “it’s my choice” have the surgery and if it reopens we redo it otherwise wait and see if it gets worse. “Wait and see if it gets worse” was the only information and advise for my option of not having the surgery. Within 5 minutes of online research after the appointment I find information that doctors don’t recommend pregnancy until 12 months after a repair, and most will recommend you wait until after pregnancy unless symptoms are severe. I received no guidance around this except for obviously they wouldn’t want to do the surgery while I’m pregnant and that surgery recovery is 1 month.

The scheduling desk, and MA were very considerate and easy to work with, and Dr. Kim was delightful and ensured in I am ready for surgery, and answered all my questions.

Dr. Kim, unlike many surgeons, explains things and is willing to discuss options. I definitely felt that I was in the care of an experienced and knowledgeable doctor AND she treated me as an intelligent person capable of collaborating around the course of my healthcare. I recommend her completely and without reservation.

Dr. Kim was very attentive to details and an excellent listener - she made me feel safe and explained everything to me in a very basic way- I left feeling more confident in managing my situation - and no matter what outcome I have I know I’m in great hands with her- front desk and other staff are upbeat and very efficient. A refreshing experience overall.
