Bill Huang's Online Review Report Card

I thought I was picky about choosing doctors, but I messed up with this one. Within four months, post-knee replacement surgery, I contacted Dr. Huang’s office three times to get help with extreme nerve pain. The second time, he got on the line and was rude, “scolding,” for lack of a better word, and dismissive. He didn’t ask any questions to try to figure out what might be going on. At my four-month checkup, I saw his assistant, Mark. He, too, was rude and a “hot head,.” When I quoted my physical therapist, thinking it was something he’d validate, he went ballistic and told me he knew more about knee replacements than my “f*ck*ng” therapist. I should have left the room at this point but found myself waving my arm to calm him down, treading lightly the rest of the visit.

He is obviously a fine surgeon with a stellar reputation. However, if you have any medical issues that create a situation for modifying in any way how he does surgery or post care management (meaning the drugs used during and post surgery) this is not the doctor for you. He does it his way, and only his way, which works fine, but no deviation will be considered. Save your time and find another surgeon.

Great surgeon. I had hip replacement done about 9 years ago on my other hip, it left me with one leg longer and off balance. This time having the other one done was such a better experience. Dr. Huang evened my legs so I’m not off balance and don’t have to wear a shoe insert anymore. Plus it was out patient. I received a recommendation from a friend for Dr. Huang and also highly recommend him.

My experiences at EBJ with Dr Howard Barker and Dr Bill Huang have been great. Their assistants, the nurses and the entire staff of EBJ have been professional, friendly and make you feel welcome and comfortable. It has been a pleasure to work with ALL of them in getting my body back to where I need it to be to enjoy living life the way I expect to.

I trusted Dr.Huang w/another hip surgery.!! He is thorough-caring and I had minimal pain. I also appreciated the office calling to peek in on me...that was thoughtful ❤️ TY DR HUANG!!

Overall, they don't listen or read the chart. My knee replacement surgery was scheduled, when I went for my 1 week pre-op, they said they made a mistake, didn't notice I was scheduling surgery and had given me a cortisone shot 2 months ago, needed to wait 3 months. To avoid infection, urgery was postponed for 3 weeks. Hotels and airline reservations of caretakers had to be changed. In this pre op, I indicated to the P.A. that I did well on oxycodone, but hydromorphone makes me sick. After surgery, the discharge nurse/instructions said it was dangerous, at my age, to take more than 3,000 mg of Tylenol (risk damage to liver) AND my discharge was being. delayed an hour or so as my liver numbers were too high (they hung another bag of fluid via IV to help flush my liver). When the nerve block wore off, I was in extreme pain. I soon discovered that they did prescribe the oxycodone, but it was combined with acetaminophen (Tylenol). Although I was allowed up to 2 pain pills every four hours, to do so would bring me up to 3,900 mg of Tylenol. I have high liver numbers, so I could not take sufficient pain killer to control the pain. The level of pain was terrible. We called and the doctor changed my meds. My son picked up the new perscription, guess what it was: hydromorphone Remember - I told them I don't do well with this medicine snd again because it makes me sick to my stomach, I couldn't take as much as I was allowed, so I experienced far more pain than necessary. At my 2 week follow-up, I asked the doctor why he didn't give me the oxycodone (without Tylenol) that I said worked well in my system. He said (short form) that the oxy without Tylenol was a desirable drug for the black market. I asked him if he believed that I would be targeted by drug dealers who would break into my home to steal my stash of pain pills. Dr. Huang gave me a totally expressionles look Managing my pain was not a priority, protecting elderly patient's kidneys was not a priority, protecting the public from drug dealers was far more important to him. I do hope his skills as a surgeon are good, time will tell. But listening to a patient, checking the chart before giving, in this case a cortisone shot prescribing the wrong medication TWICE. The P.A. did not check my chart to see I was scheduling surgery and therefore did not qualify for a cortisone shot which caused my last minute surgery delay. I bet at the pre-op the P.A. didn't record the discussion about which pain medicine worked for me. The total disregard for overprescribing Tylenol for elderly to me is a crime. I have had multiple foot surgeries, said to be more painful than knee surgeries. I was always able to manage the pain with these previous surgeries. Withe Dr. Huang and crew, I experienced level 10 pain for 2 days. How can they do that to someone...... From 1 to 10, I give this crew a MINUS TEN

I’m so Thankful for my new right hip. I wish that I had it done sooner. I would recommend him to anyone that is in need of a new hip he is a awesome doctor an angel sent from god.
