Mel K Strange Md's Online Review Report Card

It has taken me 1 year to be ready to write this review. My name is Robin Rice. I am in my early 50s. Dr. Strange was my primary doctor for about 4 years. In the year of 2020, I went to Dr. Strange 4 times that year complaining of chest pain, pain in my left arm, pain in my jaw, dizziness. He did 4 EKGs on me that year and told me that I was fine. I would go home thinking it was acid reflux. I would drink whole bottles of antacids a day. I demanded a CT scan after my 4th visit with the same complaints. Turned out, I had 100% blockages in 2 arteries and needed emergency triple by pass surgery. I was extremely disappointed with Dr Strange for NOT ordering more tests after the 1st visit of complaining of chest, arm, jaw pains. I would never recommend Dr Strange as a doctor. I almost died under his care. Thank you.

Super friendly, staff seems to genuinely care, and offers helpful advice as I am a transplant locally. Cons: No Fridays (ouch), but really ouch after/near holiday weekends. Has modified medication and multiple times now changed/instructed the incorrect medications to be taken/not taken -- i.e. lost track of what was prescribed to me by the Dr, or represcribed wrong medication I was told to throw out, et cetera. When explaining an issue, which is already hard to do, I was met with what I took as a personal attack rather than a constructive approach of depressive symptom (qualification/quantification of lack of self-care changes), which was underscored the next visit by a recommendation to move away from the area, rather than treating me where I live and own a home. I wouldn't recommend a friend or family member be treated this way, and recommend an office which will not continuously lose track of what has been prescribed from their office each visit, as I have had to double check with others multiple times to help keep track of what medications I am on because I cannot trust the Rx. That's a bit risky for my taste. Having said that, the Dr genuinely cares and helped with my knee injury very well, and my general (non mental) health with exemplary bedside. I think some system updating and a tablet rather than physical charts, and an in house/close referral system for mental health patients who may need two frames of reference to help identify when a patient starts going nonverbal and an outsourced/virtual partial Friday would be really nice. I just do not recommend for patients exhibiting symptoms which may require ongoing primary mental health treatment appointments, or for multiple regular medication Rx. Definitely a family Dr, great opportunity to integrate technology to bridge the pain points. Dr. Strange is an excellent doctor. He is kind and understanding but he also treats the reason for the visit so expertly and professionally. He is an excellent listener and he is compassionate. I give him 5 stars.

He has been my doctor for more than 30 years. Wherever I move in this state, I go back to my doctor, knowing I will be respected, understood, and cared for. He does not hesitate to refer to a specialist, if needed.

Waited in a very small room on a very warm day, one window up high(couldn't see out) from 10:50 to 11:30 with no air conditioning or fan. I was just going to leave because of shortness of breath and instinctively pulled down my mask so I could catch my breath.( I also have meds for heart palpitations) and felt I was going to pass out when he came bursting through the door yelling at me about the Coronavirus, and a long explanation(which I already know) was so inappropriate and uncaring of my feelings. Yelling voice once again about how long he has worn a mask...and how important they are(again, I know all about masks too.) It was a very uncomfortable and humiliating experience. After a very short exam he then dismissed me with referrals and an RX for an x ray at the hospital. Wow, I really felt awful when I left and I was already not feeling well (crying on the way home) now that's what I call not acceptable behavior for a Dr. and sorry, but I won't be coming back.

Well, I have insurance.I live less than 5 miles from Dr Strange's office.I filled out his form to have him add my husband as a patient since Dr. Strange was recommended, even though my insurance company doesn't consider him to provide premium care. His office is listed as taking new patients.Very terse message left by office worker, "Dr. Strange will not accept you as a patient. Goodbye."I called for a reason. Female who answered the phone also rude. "It's a private practice. We don't have to give a reason."Well, so much for the Hippocratic oath. If that is how they treat people.... stay away. Stay far away!I'd give NO STARS, but not an option.

Without a doubt, the worst doctor I've ever had in my life. Confrontational and argumentative, zero sense of humor. I had previously been on a low dose of Percocet for chronic pain (not being able to take any anti-inflammatory medications due to complications). With the insane and over-the-top national "opioids crisis" (which could have been managed with a little effort from the AMA in my opinion , if it hadn't become such a national knee-jerk reaction) I was in effect cut off of my pain medication management. Dr. Strange had no other recommendations he could provide. Apart from this issue, on other instances I brought to his attention, I found him to be non-creative and somewhat disinterested. I can't understand the positive reviews for this doctor, other than good medical attention is so lacking in this area, people have become used to the substandard treatment they receive. Suggestion: review your hippocratic oath, and occam's razor philosophy, or maybe it's just time to retire. BTW, the new doctor I am aligned with was able to provide four different possible treatments for my chronic pain on my first appointment, where Dr Strange had nothing to offer. Won't take new patients that are cash pay or have any type of government insurance. Seriously? You're in Hoquiam. Most people have governments assistance. I guess it isn't his fault - Obamacare screwed a lot of people.I only called this office because a neighbor said this doctor was good and understands Alzheimer's. I guess I won't find out. Loved ones insurance kicks in Jan 1. I. cant wait until then, and this Dr. doesn't care.Back to the 'yellow pages'!
