David Penner's Online Review Report Card

Receptionist called me because Dr. Penner needed to reschedule our appointment, which was going to be another 3 months. When asked about more refills on the medication he prescribed me, she told me that I have to go to urgent care to get more medications. So because HE needed to reschedule an appointment, I now have to pay a $100 bill for urgent care to get the medication I need to not have withdrawal symptoms. Penner doesn't have any regard for human life. Won't ever come back.

I went and was feeling better and I said that often. The feeling better stopped when they used the bilateral. Then I suddenly felt very depressed. I asked and begged to stop using the bilateral side and instead since my "numbers" showed a plateau and no concrete date change on the QR9 they refused to treat me. Now I'm stuck with worse depression. All I asked for was to just do the left side only. Obviously it doesn't matter what the patient feels or thinks of their own body. The QR9 only matters. I only spoke to Mr Penner 3 times during the 5 week painful course. That isnt even close to an evaluation on one's mood. Choose your therapist wisely. Your depression cure or it becoming less depends on a competent profider.

Dr. Penner is an honest professional who makes it obvious that patient care is his goal. He treats his patients and employees very well and is committed to each and every one. The fact that he also holds TMS treatments for medication resistant patients at his office, which is a difficult treatment to come by, says a lot in itself!

Dr. Penner cares about his patients and goes above and beyond to make sure they are being taken care of in the best way possible. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient. Dr. Penner also treats depression using TMS Therapy which is hard to find in the state of Washington, but has amazing results for those who are treatment-resistant to medication.

Not a fan, my daughter had three suicide attempts (two under his care) and when I asked him about sending her to a treatment facility he said that they vary a lot in quality and he urged me to do my research. I did and she is back but now I ask him to help with $250k of insurance payments by writing a letter of medical necessity and he refused.

Doctor Penner is a great professional all around. I do not give my trust to just any doctor, not afraid to fire em, nor tell one straight out I’m not going to follow ones instructions without good cause and research. So overall having trust in a psychiatrist is serious, they have the ability to prescribe medication that can really flip your brain chemistry upside down. Before seeing a psychiatrist, I was scared, hearing bad stories of what medication can do to people negatively before finding the right dosage and antidepressants. Dr. Penner is good, really knowledgeable, and he was able to pin point what was going to help right away. He doesn’t make me feel rushed, can ask him all kinds of questions, I trust his honest answers, I feel comfortable telling him how I’m really doing with my meds, life and health in general. He’s no doubt helped so many kids and adults alike.

Dr. Penner is amazing! I have worked with other provides in our community, and I have never found an MD so willing to turn over every stone to provide the best care. I’m so grateful to him for his dedicated care, his helpful staff, and even his willingness to take our low paying insurance. Clearly Dr. Penner is deeply committed to his clients and their well being, and I don’t know what we would do without him. He is an invaluable asset to our community. Thanks to Dr. Penner’s hard work, we have a life worth living again.

Unfortunately, we never did get a chance to gauge Dr. Penner's medical prowess as we were still rotating through medications when he "fired" us for being late. One time we were 6 minutes late due to heavy traffic, and he'd already left the office and gone home. He books 10 min. appointments, so don't count on a lot of time with him. And you can only reach him via voice mail. I asked to communicate with him via email (much easier for me). He has his office staff tell people that would violate HIPAA (which it doesn't if you do it right or get permission from the patient), but then leaves messages on unsecured home answering machines which DOES violate HIPAA. Upon leaving his office the last time, his staff said he does support his departing patients with "emergency care". When I asked what that meant, they told me that it means he'll renew your prescriptions for one more month. I'm afraid I don't see him as being in this for his patients or the challenge of the profession. We always felt like we were taking up HIS "valuable time". I see a cushy seaside practice (the cost of one's location DOES get passed on to the patients) with minimal responsibility or availability. There aren't many psychiatrists, especially pediatric psychiatrists, around the area, so unfortunately, like bad restaurants in good locations, he can probably rotate through new patients to the point that he'll never have to improve how he cares for them as there will always be more waiting. A disappointing experience overall. Hopefully, he's not the norm for his profession.

I find Dr. Penner and his receptionist very cold, I think he rushes us through appointments and doesn't help problem solve issues outside of medication. However, I do feel he knows his field so we continue to be clients. His old receptionist Allison made up for much of his lacking personality, unfortunately, the new on seems to be his clone.

I've seen a number of psychiatrists in my mental health history and Dr. Penner has been the one who has helped me the most. He has an extensive knowledge of medications, their side effects, how they work together, and mental and physical disorders, etc. He also is not afraid to say "I don't know" about something, or refer you on to a more specialized doctor. I am grateful for, and completely trust, his care.
