A very thorough examination and explanation of my problem. I had a good surgical outcome. Dr. Shafer is very pleasant and gives comfort.

Dr. Shafer came recommended by my doctor as well as friends who have had surgery performed by him. This was my initial visit and I was very impressed with how he explained the two problems in my hand and the possible courses of treatment. Fully explained the surgeries and what it meant for recovery time and PT.

I have had six surgeries by Dr. Shafer, 2 carpal tunnel, 3 finger releases and shoulder surgery. Every time he took his time explaining everything to me, gave me great post operative care and was very encouraging and compassionate. The only negative experience was one post operative visit with one of the PA's but that was not Dr. Shafer's fault. I highly recommend him.
This doctor simply does not care about his patients. My wife developed an infection and he just ignored it. When she showed it to him he stated that it "isn't my problem". We had to go to another doctor, with the same specialty, to even have the infection diagnosed. If you want to be treated as if you are important to your doctor this is not the person to see! He simply walked out of the hospital after surgery, didn't bother to talk to my wife or myself.
Dr Shafer is an excellent surgeon with a terrible bedside manner, no time for patients and a horrid staff. His nurse, Rhonda dropped bandaging on the floor then tried to use it, said all my medicines were safe when one needed stopped before surgery. She used dirty scissors to remove the cast, left 5 stitches in my hand out of 15, costing another office visit. The office refused to fax paperwork to the Drs, insurance and physical therapy. Dr Shafer won't spend 3 minutes, but charges for full appt

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
