Dr. Pritchett did an excellent job with my hip resurfacing surgery. First of all, I appreciated all of the information available on his website which helped me make my decision. His assistant Susan was helpful and responsive. In our initial consultation Dr. Pritchett not only answered my questions but helped guide me on how to make such a difficult medical decision. On surgery day he was all business and 100% focused on my hip so he did not say much. However, the Swedish Hospital staff, my anesthesiologist and the rest of his team all took excellent care of me and made me feel comfortable despite my fears. The surgery went by the book and the recovery, although challenging at times, also proceeded in line with expectations. Overall Dr. Pritchett is an excellent surgeon and I will be seeing him soon to resurface my other hip.

He resurfaced my right hip almost three years ago and it still feels great. If you're looking for a doctor to be your best friend and sugar coat stuff, he ain't your doctor....but if you want someone who is a straight shooter and the best surgeon for the job, he's your guy! Update...almost 6 years and the hip is still going strong...no pain and playing basketball at a high level 5 times a week.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Dr. James Pritchett for accepting me as an elder female patient, and for his successful hip resurfacing surgery in late September 2023. We live in California and travelled to Dr. Pritchett’s Seattle office, and are so happy we did. Everything went extremely smoothly and we couldn’t be happier with the results. I can’t begin to describe how grateful I am to him for the surgery and exceptional care he has given to me! And I thank him for his tremendous skill in performing my operation. He is truly a lifesaver. I still remember the day when I was laid on the bed, pushed into the surgery room in the morning of September 26th. It was one of the toughest times of my life. His personal attention and kindness helped me overcome my fears about the surgery. During my follow up visit, he made me believe that I can be fully recovered in a few weeks. Now that I am nearly four weeks from my surgery, I am getting better and stronger every day, I can truly say I wish I had done it sooner. I had been so stressed for so long and it was really starting to affect every aspect of my life. I am deeply appreciative to Dr. Pritchett for giving me my life back! Because of his expert care, I now have hope for the future. I also appreciate everyone else who helped me in Dr. Pritchett’s office, and would like to especially thank Nurse Susan. Susan is always very kind, helpful, knowledgeable, informative and super speedy in responding to inquiries. She also went above and beyond and helped me out with recommendations for pharmacies, transportation, and even hotel suggestions. With her consistent dedication… she made the whole process a breeze; especially since we were from out of state. Thank you again, Dr. Pritchett for all your care! I appreciate you and your care more than I can express! And I am looking forward to your care of my other hip! E. I.
I've visited Dr Pritchett twice now in the past three years for knee concerns. I went on the recommendation of other physicians who state that he is very knowledgeable. My problem is not with his skills but with his attitude. He told me that "I just needed to get back to who I was three years ago" and that my pain would go away. There was no recommendation for PT to teach taping techniques or develop an exercise regimen. No questions about how important being physically active is to my mental well being. No consideration that sports and activity levels are important to me. When he suggested that cutting my Achilles to alleviate Achilles pain (that was likely leading to the knee issue and why I was there), and that this would be "no big deal", I knew that we were not speaking the same language. Pritchett may be technically a masterful surgeon and designer of replacement parts but he is sorely lacking in a sympathetic ear or have any understanding of the athlete's mind and soul. May I suggest he pursue a career working on cadavers and developing hardware where he wont need to talk to real people.
Dr James W Pritchett performed total hip replacements for both my hips. One in 2022 and the last one in 2023. I can't say enough good things regarding Dr. Pritchett. He is an incredibly talented, knowledgeable, professional, intuitive, brilliant doctor. I am so thankful that I had him as my surgeon. I went into surgery with complete confidence and trust that he would do the very best job. Also I want to give mention to Susan Knudson, his right hand medical assistant. She is on top of everything, is an excellent communicator. Thank you Dr Pritchett!
Long story short I found Dr. James Pritchett on a patients hip resurfacing experience website. Dr. Pritchett was the only surgeon near me that at the time had performed 1,500 resurfacing procedures. On 12/3/2012 the procedure was performed. Then on 12/9/2013 my left knee was replaced by him. Now 11 & 10 years later both joint replacements are working great. I ride bike 12 to 30 miles for cardio and have ridden the Crater Lake Rim Ride four years ago. I take care of a 46 acre farm with a home, barn and many outbuildings and assist with yearly hay harvest. Dr. Pritchett is highly recommended.
Dr. Pritchett, JC MacDonald PA, and Susan are incredible healthcare providers! I’m out 7 weeks from my new hip and my experience was 5 star all the way. Everything is healing nicely and I feel so blessed Dr. Pritchett was my surgeon. I can’t say thank you enough!
In December of 2007, Dr. Pritchett resurfaced my right hip. I have not had issue with it. The surgery was performed anteriorly through the glute. In December of 2020, I had him perform surgery to resurface my l left hip. It was done posteriorly through the hip area. Since the surgery, I have had problems. I have nerve damage and severe scar tissue. I have seen other 2 doctors about the issues. They stated the surgery was performed properly. After each visit, I received an email from Pritchett's office asking if I had issues with my left leg. I responded negatively. I did not receive any return responses. Three days ago, I had an appointment with a sports medicine doctor. He had x-rays taken of the front view of my hips. It was noted that my left leg is 1.1 cm shorter that my right leg. He also injected cortisone in the left because he found fluid in the muscle that was causing irritation. I have an appointment with a surgeon not aligned with Pro Ortho to possibly replace the hip.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
