List of Jim Hsu's Reviews
Dr. Hsu performed Tommy John on my right arm in 2010. My elbow healed and I was able to get back to throwing a baseball BUT I regret taking his recommendation to use a tendon in my right forearm to rebuild my elbow ligament. I trusted Dr. Hsu’s experience that this technique would not result in diminished function of my forearm and wrist. I should not have. Since my surgery, I have significantly reduced function in my right wrist and forearm - my grip never got back to full strength, I experience fatigue after using my forearm muscles for a short time (gripping, twisting, scrubbing, hammering), I can't do curls when lifting and my right wrist sometimes pops randomly and it’s REALLY painful. Hand doctor says I am developing arthritis because of the instability. I regret going along with Dr. Hsu's recommendation. The tendon was in my arm for a reason. Dr. Hsu should know better than to remove a perfectly good body part. This is bad medicine.
Dr Hsu was very good in explaining my knee problem. He was confident that he would be able to take care of my torn medial and lateral meniscus. 10 days post surgery and I can already feel the difference and am walking without a limp. Overall I am very pleased with him and his expertise.
PT referred me to Dr Hsu for knee injury. Wish I had done due diligence on so many things, including choice of surgeon and approach to ACL reconstruction. I can’t say any one outcome is the fault of surgeon but so many things gone wrong overall I felt important to note my experience for others. Choose allograft, not realizing there was such a difference in failure rate. This was not pointed out, or at least not as much as speed and reduced pain during recovery using autograft. I would have chosen differently if more unbiased information was presented and/ or he understood my long term goals better. I had a horrible experience recovering, with long delays and pain. My ACL failed on a moderate fall off my bike at 14 months. Going thru secondary reconstruction now with a different surgeon who shares much more of data out there. My tunnels for graft from Dr Hsu are in a poor orientation and I need two surgeries to repair. First just to fill the original tunnels put in by Dr Hsu. My new surgeon was worried the placement of them would lead to future failures. Overall, really frustrated that I openly trusted recommendations of Dr Hsu and didn’t do more of my own research. I would have definitely have chosen a different surgeon and approach.
He has operated on both of my shoulders due to injuries. I wouldn’t let anyone else operate on my shoulders!
I visited several orthopedic surgeons to get opinions after I injured my Knee skiing. We in Seattle are lucky to have many experienced surgeons who do many procedures per week, so all were excellent. What distinguished Dr. Hsu was his open communication style that brought me into the decision and offered me options in a clear, unhurried way. I chose him to do my procedure (ACL Replacement) and he was able to fit me into his schedule rapidly. My recovery has been fantastic.

I chose him to do my procedure (ACL Replacement) and he was able to fit me into his schedule rapidly. My recovery has been fantastic as his very light touch and minimally invasive technique upset my knee as little as possible so I was up and around in only a few days, ready to start PT in a week. I should also call out that he and his staff were amazingly responsive to requests and questions as my surgery approach, and afterwards.
Perfect- 7 surgeries and counting. I am a full time professional athlete. I have personally had 3 surgeries with Dr. Hsu. One was minor, the other two were major (2 knees and one shoulder). I was initially referred to him by both my physical therapist and the head trainer from my university. Both said they see the best outcomes from him. Specifically, they said that he is very precise in his work. So not only are his repairs excellent, but he does minimal damage to surrounding tissue. I have not only returned to full function, but I returned ahead of schedule with little to no pain almost immediately. I have also referred him to friends and family, including my wife and father. All four of the surgeries he has performed on them have had identical results. He is also knowledgeable, kind and gracious. I cannot recommend him more highly.

He repaired my badly injured shoulder and I’m happy to say almost 10 years later it’s doing well. I also see him about my aging knees and trust his knowledge. He isn’t surgery driven and I like that. He is doing injections and giving me time.
Dr. Hsu has seen me for several years about my college sports-related anterior knee pain. I suddenly tore my ACL in a competition and he was irreplaceable in my recovery from it. He knows his stuff, is willing to explain things in detail, and is always up for taking a patient phone call regarding questions about recovery. Every time I see him for an appointment I leave knowing I'm in good hands. I can't imagine seeing anyone else about my injuries!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
