I met him in a hallway, after being told that my lung cancer was inoperable. He told me he would do his best. 4 months later no evidence of cancer. He is a very kind man. Helped keep my outlook very positive during the process. His staff was wonderful.
CARING HUMANE BEING
Caring unlike any Medical Practitioner I have ever experienced. Both my mother and sister have lung cancer and I serve/served as their caretaker (so I have a great deal of experience/interaction with Dr Rengan). He is/was phenomenal. First, his knowledge base (in terms of his ability to diagnose and to provide accurate diagnosis) is first rate. Next, he takes the time necessary to inform you of your condition and all relevant options to address/treat your condition. His team is also first rate and with you every step of the way. Finally, his sincere compassion and empathy is what you wish every doctor could possess. Let me clearly state, he goes above and beyond (with ALL of his patients) what is expected. On countless ocassions I reached out for Dr Rengan late into the night, and he always provided me with the information/referrals/support I needed, as the caretaker of my family, to move forward. And his care of my mother and my sister (his patients) exceeds/exceeded all that I have described above. To illustrate much that I have stated above, my sister passed away recently as a result of her lung cancer. The day before her death I ran into Dr. Rengan at the hospital (PENN). He had come into the hospital on this Saturday, on an unrelated matter. And, he had only planned to be in the hospital for a few minutes. When I saw Dr Rengan I asked him if he could check in on my sister. I neglected at that point to inform him that my sisters condition had worsened, and that I was fearful that she wasn't going to make it. Dr. Rengan agreed to come to my sisters room and stayed quite a while. Missing whatever he had planned not to mention his train. Dr. Rengan interacted with my sister and our family. He provided a measure of comfort including contacting a collegue to further "way in on" her worsening condition. And, to put my family in contact with in house hospice care within the hospital. Shortly thereafter (less than 14 hrs.), my sister fell into a coma. And four hours later, she died. His words of condolence and "follow up care" are felt today. If all that I have described is not enough, he stated the following to me upon my sisters death, "It was an honor and a priviledge to have cared for your sister." Mere words, I think not. They describe who Dr. Rengan is - knowlegeable, caring, empathetic, present. I can provide many, many more examples of Dr. Rengan's excellence but would quickly run out of space.Dr. Rengan continues to take care of my mother as she is in remission. One final note, the reason I gave Dr. Rengan three stars, instead of four, is that it usually takes about 30-45 minutes to see the Doc. A small price to pay for such excellent care. And the wait is always a result of Dr. Rengan caring for other patients. As he says, "if someone is in distress necessitating more care, when you need more care (time), rest assured you will receive it as well."

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
