I have a history of concussions and blast exposures which made me extremely resistant to having a sedated colonoscopy. While it's not a common procedure, Dr. Rulyak did a great job of answering my questions both before and during the colonoscopy. While the process wasn't painless the pain was only really uncomfortable 3-4 times within the first 10 minutes. Each time Dr Rulyak would ease, make an adjustment while the nurse applied pressure to my abdomen and with seconds the pain would subside. Also it's only really uncomfortable going in. The second half was smoothing sailing. The best part of having this done without sedation is that I was able to walk out of the clinic within minutes of the procedure ending and drive myself home. Within an hour the pressure and bloating was gone and I was back to normal. I surprised so many people chose to be sedated for this. I don't consider myself to have a high pain threshold and I was pretty surprised at how tolerable the process was.

While Dr Rulyak is nice and pleasant, he did a very poor job diagnosing my condition, even when I repeatedly suggested what I was ultimately diagnosed with. I ended up with 4 months of unnecessary, horrid pain.

He was my doctor when I was hospitalized at Swedish. He is an amazing, caring, highly competent and compassionate physician. And will be my doc from now on. I highly recommend him.
