List of Christopher Rankin's Reviews
A terrible doctor. I went to this man many years ago to get a pain shot for my shoulder. He told me I needed a shoulder replacement operation right away and proceeded to tell me how terribly painful it was going to be - nothing like my hip or knee replacement surgeries. I went to another ortho surgeon, who told me I must have misunderstood Rankin, as "no reputable surgeon" would have told me I needed surgery at that time. Now, more than 6 years later I have had the surgery done by another doctor, of course, and it was a piece of cake. I think of all of the years that I endured pain because Rankin had scared me so much, and I curse him.
Dr Rankin has operated on both of my shoulders. The first was the result of many dislocations over many years and I waited to see him until I couldn't lift my arm. Diagnosed with torn labrum and biceps tendon. After surgery, I was told I needed a shoulder replacement. However, Dr. Ranking made several improvements short of replacement to prolong the replacement surgery as long as possible. He felt I may get relief for about 10 years. After 12 years, I went back with the OTHER shoulder injured. Also a SLAP tear. This was repairable and healed well. Recovery took exactly as long as I was told. The first shoulder is still doing fine and lasted much longer than expected. Dr. Rankin is an excellent surgeon and I would recommend him highly for any shoulder injury.
Unbelievably successful shoulder surgery both sides over two years. 58 yrs old, lifelong hardcore athlete (soccer, goal keeper). Thought I had played my last game. Shoulders are now better than 10 yrs ago. I'm back in goal 100%. Can't illustrate my satisfaction and confidence more than to let know I'm presently scheduled for hand surgery with Dr. Rankin's in the very near future.
I dislocated my shoulder and had full thickness tears of 3 rotator cuff tendons. Dr. Rankin was able to repair the existing tendons as well as fix my bicep tendon. After many months of physical therapy with no major increase in range if motion, I consulted another orthopedic surgeon 7 months after the original surgery, had a repeat MRI, and it was determined that all 3 cuff tendons tore again. The physical therapist suspected the surgery had failed early on. Although I feel Dr. Rankin is a good surgeon, I believe he and the physical therapist need better communication with each other. With follow up visits to Dr. Rankin his feeling was that the tendons had not healed and may take 1-2 years. It was not until I showed him the repeat MRI ordered by the other surgeon that he knew tendons had retorn. At this point, I cannot raise my arm above waist level and have severe stiffness. I have decided not to have the reverse surgery option because of conflicting outcomes.
With not one, but two torn rotator cuffs, I was resigned to surgery. After following up later using PT, acupuncture and herbal supplements, I had full range of motion with both shoulders and very little pain. It takes a true surgeon to admit that he would not recommend surgery at this time and to tell me to keep doing what I’m doing. Most just want to “cut”. Dr. Ranken is an honorable doctor with a wicked sense of humor. Great office staff as well!!
Pleasant initial visit, confirmed torn supraspinatus, was told would refer for MRI, after 3 calls back for update on referral, "still waiting for doc to complete notes in chart"..can only imagine the frustrations with surgery follow up.
Dr. Rankin is an excellent surgeon. I fell and broke my shoulder. Because of the type of break, he had to do a 'reverse' shoulder replacement. I am recovering and know I will never have full range of motion in that arm. I am very satisfied with his services and knowledge. He's straight forward in telling you what you need to do to get the most out of the end results. He spends time to explain any questions you have...I don't feel rushed. He's concerned about his patients.
Dr. Rankin was able to fix up my shoulder and get it back in shape enough that I was able to get back to work all be it in a different capacity as I was, but it is functional enough that it is still of use! I highly recommend him he knows what he’s doing and helps his patients understand too. I have had him for two surgeries and would seek him out if I had further need!
Received excellent care. Would highly recommend
I previously left a negative review for Dr. Rankin. At the time, I had broken my hip and was still recovering. Because the surgery left me with a slightly shorter leg, I was mad and frustrated. Yes, I do limp a bit, but I think It's getting better over time. Hip surgery can cause one leg to be a bit shorter. Dr. Rankin is a great doctor and I would recommend him to anyone!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
