I was referred to dermatology by my PCP for persistent psoriasis. He had done a biopsy that supported his diagnosis. Psoriasis is also in my family history. I saw Dr Wu who pretty much immediately said it wasn’t psoriasis, but she couldn’t really tell what it was. It’s incredibly itchy and I do my best not to scratch, but it’s not always easy. She did not do a biopsy or anything else to try to exclude other diagnoses. During my visits she repeatedly made comments insinuating that it was my fault and I was exaggerating things and that I purposely doing this to myself. I later logged on to the patient portal and saw that she had put dermatitis facticia as her diagnosis. Munchausen, really? Anyway, this was a while ago and the psoriasis is still present and is now on the skin around my eyes and my forehead. Uncool Dr. Wu, very uncool.
Dr. Wu accurately diagnosed a skin cancer on my scalp that had previously been dismissed as a less problematic keratosis. She was professional and compassionate in explaining my options in a way that I could understand (I ended up having it surgically removed by her colleague). Ive seen her a number of times since and she is always friendly and competent.
Dr Wu, with her nurse keeping notes, was very thorough. She was personable and professional. She explained all the different types of skin characteristics I had and told me any concerns. She measured any areas to keep track of. She checked with a lit instrument and magnified any areas to get a closer examination. Appointment was about 15 minutes long. I did not have any procedures done as none were needed. She recommended an annual checkup.
My 88 year old father and I showed up 12 min late for an apt. because he had to go to the bathroom and they would not see us because we were late. We have seen her 3 times so far but this lack of flexibility means we will not go back.
She is amazing!!
Joy Wu is certainly the best dermatologist Ive ever seen. She is such a caring person and is truly gifted at what she does.
Dr. Wu is the most phenomenal human being on this planet. I would recommend her services to any and every person requiring a dermatologist.
