List of Jessica Johnston-Rickert's Reviews
I have been a patient of Dr. Johnson-Rickert's for many years, but unfortunately I will need to find a new doctor. She rushes visits, is impatient, and pushes powerful drugs without dealing with underlying issues. She consistently attributes my symptoms to "anxiety" and weight and will refer out to specialists for individual symptoms instead of looking at issues holistically. At this point, I am afraid to see her because she does not take me seriously, and I leave feeling ashamed and hopeless. If you have any complex health or mental health issue or struggle with weight, look elsewhere.
All my appointments with her seem very rushed and she often doesn’t listen to my concerns or anything I have to say about my health or problems I believe I’m having, as well as any difficulties I believe I’m having with my journey taking testosterone. As a trans person support is very important and I don’t find it in Jessica. Although she called herself lgbtq friendly and transgender transition friendly she doesn’t listen to me about how I feel like my body is handling such hormones. She also takes every session to make a unhelpful comment on my weight and tells me to just walk more when walking is my job, and doesn’t give me useful information or help with my mental health . Having an eating disorder and losing weight by being unable to eat food without guilt is a good way to lose weight in her eyes I guess because she never asked how I lost more than 20 lbs in a month and some change. Find a different doctor
If you are transgender, DO NOT go to Dr. Johnston-Rickert. If you don’t fall into her strict definition of what being trans is (IE someone born with a vagina who wants a penis or vice versa) or if you have any mental illnesses, she will not prescribe HRT or do anything to help you transition (which, in turn, makes your mental health worse!). She gatekeeps who is worthy of receiving treatment and who isn’t. She was the first doctor I went to when I figured out I was trans and wanted to transition, and I got told by her, “I think you are nonbinary, but you are not transgender.” Which…nonbinary is under the trans umbrella and has been for years. And because I had my parents at that appointment, they took what she said as law. As far as I remember, she claims she follows WPATH standards, though when I double checked, a lot of the info she had given me was inaccurate or straight up wasn’t a WPATH standard. I referred a friend to her by mistake and he was withheld the testosterone he desperately needed because of his mental health, which was the way it was in large part because of his dysphoria; I know this happened to several of my friends, as well. Please, if you are trans and want to talk about HRT, go to Planned Parenthood for informed consent or Dr. Melissa Hidde in Green Bay, who trained under Dr. Johnston-Rickert whom Dr. Hidde herself said had an old-fashioned and outdated view of what being trans is. Dr. Hidde is all around an amazing doctor and so many of my friends see her, though I’m not sure if she’s taking new patients as she’s booked pretty far out. PP is an amazing second option. HRT is life-saving treatment for those who want it. If you feel it’s necessary to be a better you, don’t waste your time with someone who tries to tell you you aren’t fit to transition for some reason or another.
She is not trauma informed. She does not understand how to demonstrate genuine compassion, particularly for long term issues based in trauma or mental health struggles and how this connects to physical health. She can do the basics as a doctor but if you have any complexities to you as a patient, or value really solid bedside manner, I would not suggest seeing her.
She is not a kind doctor for someone who struggles with an eating disorder and living in a larger body, she pushes weight loss surgery and medication and doesn’t work collaboratively with an ED therapeutic team. She has a fake niceness that is condescending and rude. The shame and sadness I felt after seeing her was immense. If you are overweight/“obese” I would recommend avoiding her unless you are really wanting medication and surgery.
I have been a patient of Dr. Jessica Johnston-Rickerts since 2012 and every time I see her, I feel fortunate that she is my doctor. She takes time with me, makes me feel that my needs are important, is professional, smart, comprehensive, warm, and caring. I can't imagine there is a better doctor.
I have been seeing DrJohnston-Rickert for many years and she is an amazing person and doctor. She is a professional yet caring, respectful and personable. The nurses are great as well.
My wife had gone I'm due to some breathing issues. My wife was pretty much told she was crazy and sent elsewhere, here, there, every where. No doctor would take my wife serious because of the notes left in her file. Well, my wife wasn't crazy. My wife has severe autoimmune conditions with lung involvement. My wife was 32!
Love Dr Johnston Rickert. Very caring and does what she can to quickly find out whats going on and find a solution. I would highly encourage you to have her for your family Dr.
I have seen Dr J for 7 years and absolutely love her! She is very understanding and kind and very thorough in her evaluations.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
