List of David Paolone's Reviews
This is the best doctor I have ever had in my life. Dr Paolone explains situations in full. He is aware that his patients experience pain and he is always gentle and empathetic. He is always on time on his schedule. I feel so fortunate to have found him as my doctor.
As a physician and a patient, I've had direct and indirect opportunities to assess many urologists. Dr. P has excellent knowledge and technical skills. I've been very impressed.
Dr. Paolone may not be as personable as other practitioners, but I did not pay nearly $30K hoping to find my next best friend. I hoped for a knowledgeable, experienced and competent urologist to successfully perform my surgery, and that is exactly what I got in Dr. Paolone. If you are looking for Dr. Congeniality look elsewhere. However, if you want a serious and dedicated professional this is your guy.
Doesn't communicate well. Likes to use staff as intermediator instead of talking directly. Took over 5 months to resolve the situation with him repeatedly assuring that stone would pass. Then a second stone that he said would not become a problem started passing. This led to multiple x-rays, ct scan, and emergency room visits. Again he said stone would pass so nothing was done until it was convenient for him to finally do something. Instead of performing one procedure he decided to do 2 causing even more expense and weeks of added pain.

Pro: If you need an operation he is probably a good technician. Con: His answer to everything is surgery. He vastly understates the potential risks of the procedures he performs. After seeing him I got a second opinion where I was told that a procedure that Dr. Paolone said should be done "as soon as possible" didn't need to be done at all. Now, 1 1/2 years later I am still monitored and still doing fine.
I've seen four other urologists, although none nearly as extensively (I'm not counting P.A.'s--Physicians Assistants in urology). Dr. Paolone is better than the other three in most respects, but I'm afraid that's not saying much. Anyway, Dr. Paolone is friendly enough, but he tended not to check my history thoroughly enough before he spoke with me, and he tended to repeat himself verbatim at successive visits. He scheduled a catscan for me without consulting me first and after I'd discussed the possibility thoroughly with my hospitalist who agreed with me the catscan should not be undertaken. I submitted to the catscan reluctantly, and it proved to be unnecessary. (Successive ultrasounds showed the object in question to be a cyst, not a tumor.) I was thus exposed needlessly to a great amount of radiation.Dr. Paolone was pushing me to undergo prostate surgery from the start, and that proved to be unnecessary as well. (Pills alone eventually did the job, although it took them significantly longer than it normally takes.) I also felt he withheld information about the surgery: that it effectively renders the patient infertile and that it normally takes the pills about six months to work if they're going to.If you do make him your urologist, take what he says with a grain of salt, do some independent research about your condition, medicine, and procedures, and don't submit to procedures on his recommendation alone.
I first met Dr. Paolone 9 years ago when I was having some problems with blood in my urine and Dr. Paolone did some further testing and discovered that I had a horseshow shaped kidney and kidney stones and a blockage in my bladder.Dr. Paolone has done 4 surgeries to remove kidney stones and fragments of kidney stones. I feel extremely fortunate to be a patient of Dr. Paolone because I know that I am getting excellent care. I would recommend Dr.Paolone to anyone needing a Urologist.
Excellent physician! Very up-to-date on current treatment for the condition I saw him for. Great bedside manner. He is very prompt about getting back to his patients even when he's on call.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
