Sam Lubner's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Lubner is an excellent doctor. He has an excellent bedside manner but most of all, he did so much to help my sister when she had an emergency visit to the UW Hospital a year ago. My sister was visiting us from the state of Oregon. She had terminal colon cancer. While visiting, she developed an intestinal blockage. It also gave her intense pain on top of the pain she was suffering from the metastatic cancer. Early Sat morning, brought her to urgent care & then was transferred to UW’s ER. At the ER, they determined there wasn’t much they could do, so they wanted to send her home with lots of OTC meds to clear the intestine. My sister, a nurse, requested additional review because of the intense pain. It looked like a lost cause to us but finally the ER doctor called in Dr. Lubner. He arrived and had extensively reviewed my sisters information on the Epic system prior to the visit. He had several ideas to address various aspects and wanted to admit her to the hospital. We agreed and over the course of the next few days, doctors – – including Dr. Lubner – – helped address the blockage quickly. They also tested & found other ways to address her pain. But, it did not end there. Dr. Lubner reached out to a radiologist in the state of Oregon and arranged for him to look at my sisters leg to ID another issue. I can tell all of you that he was a prayer answered for my sister.

I wasn't pleased with Dr. Lubner. He disagreed with another doctor's diagnosis which was outside of his area of specialty. This was totally unprofessional behavior. Instead of speaking with the other doctor about concerns he had, he put me in the middle. I went for a second opinion and low and behold the almighty Dr. Lubner was wrong.

I have a very rare disease and Dr Lubner has been excellent in his level of knowledge, his willingness to look outside the box. He has a friendly, humorous bedside manner and respects the knowledge I have of my condition. Very please with my care here.

Dr. Lubner is the most caring and compassionate Dr. I have ever had. He has a knack for putting you at ease.

Dr. Sam Lubner has been with me through 6 months of chemo and a year of follow up. From a professional standpoint, he is knowledgeable and willing to answer all your questions. From a personal standpoint, he is great guy - good positive attitude and actually cares about you. I am very grateful to Dr. Lubner for helping me through this difficult time.

Very communicative. Listens to his patient and answers questions about concerns that person has. Very encouraging.

Dr. Lubner presents with a smile and is upbeat. I don't feel he's truly interested with the hands on aspect of cancer care. He told me that following patients for cancer recurrence is a waste of time for both doctors and patients. I wonder if his patients feel that way? I doubt it. Likes to talk, but very little exam was done. I found documentation in my medical record of multiple exams done, yet they weren't. I feel he is an academic. He has many scholarly abstracts all over the internet, but lacks the basics a good cancer doctor should have.

Just the best you can get.Is so compassionate caring honest and most importantly caring.i really don't think i could have done this without him.He is one of the best in his field.

Dr. Lubner was the lucky guy who got to tell my father, with my sister and I present, that he had advanced lung cancer - this ten minutes after meeting him. Dr. Lubner however made this incredibly difficult situation more comfortable with his easy going yet very professional manner. He had exactly the right mix of compassion, humor and directness. I can't imagine having to give that kind of news day in and day out without becoming numb to it but he did so in a way that made us feel that he genuinely cared and appreciated the very human aspect of this situation. He took time to answer all our questions, never made us feel dumb or that he had anyplace he'd rather be than right there with us in the room. If you have the misfortune to face a diagnosis of cancer, I only hope that you have a doctor as good as Dr. Lubner.
