I had been having trouble with a birth control pill I was on. Opposed to seeing my MD, I thought it’d be best to see an actual OBGYN to discuss my contraceptive options. I was considering an IUD but was unsure. Due to my past experiences with contraceptives that didn’t work for me, I was truly at a loss and needed some professional guidance. Dr. Africano provided just that. He explained to me, in detail, my choices and respected me as the patient to make the choice for myself with the information I’d been given. There was no pressure or rush whatsoever. The birth control I was on was causing me to bleed far too often ( that is of no fault of any doctor - after trying it, it simply wasn’t the right birth control choice for me). Dr. Africano was very patient in answering any and all questions I had. He was extremely informative and knowledgeable without being pushy or condescending. His willingness to educate me, as a patient, was astounding. I appreciate the time he took to assist me as I’ve been brushed off by other OBGYN’S in other parts of the country in the past. I hope he practices in Ashland for years to come.

I saw dr africano in florida in 2002 as I just got married and was undecided whether I wanted children, but I figured I needed an gyn regardless for my yearly paps. We were in the room alone, no female or any other person was present. He began the exam first off by telling me what great musculature tone I had and the pap smear he put his fingers in another area instead. I never before him, or after, had a physician do this to me and I knew this wasn't normal, but I was scared to say anything. This kind of thing happens everyday to women, but if this happened to me now.....I would report it!

I had this doctor when I was pregnant with my first son 29 years ago in Boston MA. I’m writing this review because I am still suffering from post traumatic stress after what he did to me. I will never forget it. I was in my third trimester and I had an appointment with him. At the time I was just 23 years old and didn’t know then what I know now. There was no nurse or medical assistant in the exam room with us and with the door closed he told me that he had to perform a vaginal and breast exam. I didn’t think that was correct but it was my first baby and he was the doctor so I did what he said. He began the breast exam with both hands (one on each breast) as if caressing my breast. I felt dirty and violated. When I asked what he was doing he simply stated it was just part of the exam. Then he had me lay down with my feet in the stirrups. He began touching the area of my vagina that has absolutely nothing to do with the giving birth. His touch didn’t feel like an exam. I began to cry and he stopped and stood up and left the room. I quickly got dressed and went to the receptionist who could see that I was crying and upset. She asked me what was wrong and I told her I never want to see him again!!! In fact I made my next appointment with a female doctor. I know it’s too late now but luckily laws have changed and a nurse or medical assistant must be present for all exams. If I can save another young mother to be from experiencing the trauma that I am still living with, then not reporting him years ago when I should have was not in vain. Women and mothers to be, stay away from this doctor! Once a pervert ALWAYS A PERVERT!!!!

How is this doctor practicing again? He stopped working in New Hampshire 20 years ago, I had him for my second child. It was mentally and physically traumatic. He was impatient, arrogant, rude and assuming. He ripped my placenta out after impatiently waiting 5 minutes for it to pass. He did not come to hospital to admit me at middle and told me to go home. Nurse had me stay and I delivered an hour later. A complete and utter disgrace to medicine. I’m calling the medical board in both states to see how he is loose again.

This doctor was disciplined for giving a woman an unscheduled tubal ligation. He was ordered to pay a 10000 fine and perform community service. He almost caused me to hemorrhage after neglecting me throughout the labor and delivery. He acted bored and was reading Golf Digest when I was in heavy labor. Nasty man. Prescribed Darvocet which was in my chart as drug allergy.

Worst doctor I ever had. I do not recommend this doctor. I felt very uncomfortable with him. I felt the majority of the csection with my twins he wouldn't put my baby's skin on skin contact for breast feeding purposes he said he was going to circumcised my son but instead went to golf knowing my insurance wouldn't pay for more days of stay. He was rude and not kind when I told the nurse that he was mean to me she told him and he confronted me I was really nice to him. He then went home and did not care about circumcised my son. The csection was the worst experience I was crying and yelling screaming cause I could feel ageny of pain and lots of vometing I had to be restrained and given more medication. When I had my next child a few years later all the negative experiences never had it with the doctor at holmes. Crazy crazy horrible experience i had with this doctor. I just had gotten out of the military too.

You delivered two of my sons I don't think any other doctor would have delivered them healthy

Dr Africano performed pelvic surgery for me 3 days ago. He was extremely thorough and kept me well informed of all details about my surgery and what to expect from the very beginning right through to my recovery period. He also contacted my family personally once the surgery was finished and explained to them how it all went and how I was going. I am so grateful that Dr Africano was my surgeon and I highly recommend him to anyone who has fibroids and needs a hysterctomy or any other gynecologic issues. My surgery was only 3 days ago and I already feel mich better thanks to the expertise of this wonderful doctor. Thank you so much Dr Africano .

He was thorough in his evaluation, patient and meticulous in counselling regarding the pros and cons of alternative therapy, and provided balanced information regarding the proposed operation. I had my surgery performed by Dr. Africano and am very happy with my decision and the outcome. Based on my experience, I can recommend him without reservation.

I went to Dr.Africano for my first pregnancy. He was amazing. I was going through a hard pregnancy with severe depression. He never made me uncomfortable or acted as though I were some silly pregnant woman. I was so upset when I found out he was going on sabbatical. If you are expecting to be his only patient hire a concierge doctor for your needs. He is amazing.
