Dorene Dempster's Online Review Report Card

I am not impressed with this Sturgeon Bay hospital for many reasons. First of all, what is this hospital called? It seems to change its name every couple of years. When I attended this hospital it went through 3 names, Door County Memorial Hospital, Door Ministry Medical Center, and now it's being called Door County Medical Center. Do they keep changing its name to hide how bad it is? In my opinion yes. I went in for a normal physical and had a few health questions as I had a miscarriage at 3 months pregnant six weeks before. My husband and I had a healthy toddler but I was experiencing health problems and I wanted that checked because I thought that could have contributed to the miscarriage. The appt was at 8am but the staff were acting like they were busy and rushed. I just got the feeling that in the very small town of Sturgeon Bay the people want to do things like that to look important because there it's all about image. I also found that Dr Dempster had very poor hygiene. She put on the gloves but was touching the stir-ups where people put their feet and touching the outside and inside of the garbage can. I didn't get any of my questions answered. Within the week I had redness and symptoms I hadn't had before but received in the mail that my Pap smear was normal. Then my husband got symptoms and he became worried. It had started with me and the only place I had been was to my physical. I went to a different city and it was discovered I had an STD, which was impossible to me because we hadn't had sex since the miscarriage. I am certain the origin of my infection came from my visit to Dr. Dempster and her poor hygiene and possibly equipment that wasn't sanitized properly. We had 2 more miscarriages after this and we still feel bad about trusted this small bad hospital and its staff (my opinion). My husband encouraged me not to return and I agreed. We are still upset this happened to us. If you want an STD, then book your appt with this hospital.

The city of Sturgeon Bay is very small and gossipy and this hospital is no exception. I'm not certain what to call this place because over the decades we have lived here it seems to change names quite a bit. So whether you call this place Door Ministry Medical Center or now Door County Medical Center, I'll tell you about my experience here. I've lived in this city my entire life, working and volunteering since high school and I can tell you many graduates of Sturgeon Bay don't stay and the others that do have bullied people out. I went to Dempster after being told at the Ymca not to because she was terrible, but I chose not to listen because in this city you don't know who is being truthful and who isn't. I'll tell you I found her to be hostile, cruel, and demeaning. All I needed was a physical after a recent miscarriage and she could not handle her behavior. I was also suffering from 2 treatable medical conditions that she didn't want to discuss- because she simply wanted to be mean.

Id leave a zero if I could but to be criticized for getting the the closed hospital to make sure my daughter was alive after losing a baby last year was mind blowing, she made me feel as tho I have no where to go for help. She could care less about any patient. Drive 5 mins to make sure my baby was still alive of drive an hr to my OB could have been the difference between life or death for my baby.

I had a great experience with Dr. Dempster. She listened to my concerns, explained things in terms I understood, and gave me lots of options for treatment.

Dr. Dempster acts like she is looking out for the patient but is really just looking to get her production numbers up at the hospital, constantly ordering tests and having unnecessary office visits then charging you $250.00 per.... I would not recommend this Dr. to anyone

Dr. Dempster was my OBGYN for my second child. I had complications which I told her about. I even felt I could be having an ectopic pregnancy...she did an ultrasound (with old equipment)got snotty with me and said "see, here it is, perfectly normal...see the heart beat?" I said you know it is in the uterus and she gave me a dirty look like of course it is. Less than a week later I was rushed by ambulance to a hospital in horrible pain. She didn't even come in to see me. They released me saying it was probably a miscarriage (She and her partner agree) without even an ultrasound. Later that day, after passing out, I went another hospital to find out that my tube had burst early that morning, I had lots of blood in my uterus and could have died. I heard I was not the first this happened to. Beware!

I’d leave a zero if I could, cares about her production numbers more than her patients

I was initially excited to see this doctor as I wanted to get medical care locally and not have to travel. My family has been Door County local for almost 45 years, working as public servants and volunteering almost constantly, and I followed in my parent's footsteps. I was really surprised at the fact that Dr. Dempster procured untrue information and then it showed up in my medical records. I have a feeling that that place is truly a place of hate and gossip because just about everything she wrote in my medical records is untrue. This is especially concerning because a medical record is a legal document. Listening to the patient and getting the correct surgical history from the correct hospitals would be the right thing to do, not using office gossip and writing it as truth. Sturgeon Bay is truly an unhealthy place where many local people have moved, deciding they just don't want to deal with the unprofessionalism, hate, gossip, and incompetence. Dr. Dempster is dangerous, and I have made that assessment based on my experiences there. In my opinion, it is not worth even trying Door Ministry because it may permanently change your health and perspective on how evil people can be. Also, the same untrue things in my medical records were then spread around the Sturgeon Bay community. The only reason I think they do this is to have superiority and power over others. All around, avoid Sturgeon Bay and especially Door Ministry.

She misdiagnosed my ectopic pregnancy. Almost died.

When seeing Dr. Dempster it was a total nightmare. She was all over the place, like she wanted to run out as quickly as possible. She gives no time to ask questions and comes off as rude and cold/heartless. She says she will do something and doesnt do it. Worst OB experience ever! I do not recommend her!
