I had brain surgery at Barrow in 2017. Dr. Porter is a top notch neurosurgeon and is amazing and kind, but do not expect any after care. You will be sent home with no pain control or very little. I have wanted to write a review about the lack of pain control at Barrow for a long time, but when two other people I know recently had surgery there, and were sent home with no pain control, I had to say something. One had an anterior/posterior fusion on her neck, which is known to be one of the most painful surgeries there is, was sent home with 800mg IBUPROFEN for the most painful surgery one can have, I had to say something. Denying patients pain control who JUST had surgery, amounts to torture. It makes one feel that no one cares, or that one has done something wrong and one's own doctor refuses to help their patient who is clearly in pain and suffering is malpractice. Doctors take an oath to do no harm. By refusing pain control or offering psychotropic medication in place of pain medication is harming patients. We all know that their is an opiate epidemic, but doctors treating a patients' actual pain is NOT the cause. Street drugs are easily available, but extremely dangerous, and THAT is where the problem lies, not with patients in actual pain. I have had 12 surgeries in my life, and was never denied pain control until brain surgery at Barrow. My prior surgeons prescribed pain medication and then easily weaned me off. Doctors need to take their profession back from politicians who think they know more about pain control than they do, because currently, you are torturing your patients, and that is malpractice. I currently need two neurosurgeries, a hip replacement, and shoulder surgery; but after the torture I, and others I know received at Barrow, I cannot bring myself to schedule any of them. I will not go through another surgery with no pain control. Therefore, I continue to suffer due to the care I did not receive at Barrow.

I have been coming to Barrow for treatment for looking at getting brain surgery because I have bad seizures and back in October 2020 I did my 7 day eeg at Barrow and results were found but after that it took nearly 6 to 7 months till I heard from Barrow till I came back for more testing which I called them. So in various appts I came back and did a PET Scan, Neuro Psychology Test, High Density eeg test, and Wada test. After I completed these in August and September I was sent to Mayo for a 3 to 5 day eeg test and after I completed that image middle of September 2021 Mayo told me to check back with Barrow. I have messaged and called them and I haven't gotten no response back. So far I've learned theirs bad communication problem that needs fixing.

My husband is a patient here. Weve been helped by a young blonde lady named Jessica. Now normally the staff is nice but this lady is not. She was not helpful at all and constantly had an attitude. Maybe this place would have better reviews if there staff wasnt so rude. We will not be back!

I am just walking out of this place for an appointment with Karissa for injections for my migraines. I am a single parent and I live 45minutes to an hour away from here. Coordination is key. i took a full day off of work to coordinate this appointment as well as well as my 13 year old sons appointments which take place downtown. my son has cardiac disease, intestinal, adhd and autism spectrum . I was advised down stairs that i could not take my son up stairs to my appointment. I advised I'm not leaving him in the car in the garage, I live 45 minutes away! she called the head nurse who then asked if I could leave him down stairs in the entry way while i attended to my appointment ( instead of their GIANT LOBBY ) I advised no! so they would not see me. My son is too young to wait in their VERY VERY LARGE LOBBY but old enough to be left alone in the entry way downstairs 3 floors away from me? Please tell me how that makes sense!?! leave my special needs child alone?!?! WOW. Karissa is amazing, her Medical Assistant is ok, has no passion left in his job. Thank you for making a single mother of a special needs child job impossible.zero for the company4 stars for Karissa

Had a appointment and came late because they sent me the wrong direction. I waited a hour to be seated for the lady to come out just for her to say that I came too late . Tried to offer us food vouchers to make up for the missed appt… I asked for the customer service and they gave me a fake one that was out of service. DONT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES OR YOURSELF HERE

The 2 Dr’s that helped me were very helpful, caring and understanding. They successfully have given me 2 sets of nerve block shots and let me have my life back free of pain. I highly recommend Barrows neurological institute.

They gave my friend nerve block shots and the shots were successful both times. The Dr was caring, understanding and very professional.
