Please read the reviews about the rude staff before scheduling an appointment here. I called for an appointment with my new PCP and was told that appointments were a long ways out but I could come in as a quick walk in and that if I get there at 430 pm, they move patients in and out very quickly. This information was totally incorrect and when I showed up as instructed, I was told the wait was actually 1 - 2 hrs and the hours of the clinic were different than what I was told. The staff was extremely unprofessional and refused to advise who I spoke with. When the staff went to get the office manager Erica, I heard her say something along the lines of "great, and waste more time". I also heard them call another patient a dodo - when I mentioned this to Erica she denied it. The doctors might have good reviews but the staff is so unprofessional and it seems nothing is being done about it based on the negative reviews resulting in no change. I decided to find a new PCP elsewhere.

Update (10/2022) - SCMG does appointments now, in addition to being able to walk-in without an appointment. Yay. Either way Dr. O'Conner and SCMG are the best. I have seen many physicians in my lifetime and Dr. O'Conner is by far the very best. Excellent PA's too. A++++ Easy and fast referrals as needed. Wait time is not lengthy. Excellent professional staff. Highly recommend. They do not do appointments other than annual physicals, however I have not found this to be a problem. If I want to see a specific doctor or physicians assistant I tell the front desk when I sign in. They will in turn give me an estimated wait time for that physician. I can then decide to go in the que to see anyone or wait for the specific physician. The physicians assistants are very knowledgable and provide good service. I highly recommend.
We have been going to south coast med group for over a decade. We had a real hard financial set back this year. A lot of doctors offices worked with us to help us continue care, but south coast med group would not. It was more important to follow protocol than to help us continue treating our hypertension. They refused to refill my husbands hypertension meds that he has been taking under their care for over 5 years and stable. They insisted he has to go in for an appointment $120-150. When I had a job and insurance- no problem. But try supporting a family on $450/week unemployment. We chose food over a doctors visit. This office could care less if my husband had a stroke because he is out of meds. They just wanted their visit and $. When did we stop being real people? Looking for a caring practice now.
Good helpful folks
I have been going to this group for many years and have just reached my boiling point!I loved Dr. O'Connor when I could see her, but over the last few years there's been major shift of management and patient care management. Attitudes of most personnel are rather arrogant and don't belong in the health care profession.Wait times are over an hour, even for a vaccination. My annual was a scheduled appointment and I waited a half an hour to get into the room and another half an hour before I saw a PA!!!And after all that I still need to go back in because that visit didn't qualify to refill prescriptions?!?!This establishment is corporate taking over medical care and doctors treating insurance rather than the patient.
Terrible. Only thing that matters to this practice is money. Definitely not in it for true patient care.
Have been coming here 10 years. Professional staff. Good care. Always open when you need them. They see me, my wife and my kids. Love this place!
Nice staff. Clean. Took care of me. quick in and out.
I’m very sad about what happened to Dr. John…🌹..Cheng.. .. I never met him I wish I did… to all the staff who help me with my health care I just want to thank everyone of you… from Newport Beach California Balboa Island..RIP John Cheng💐🕊

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
