At the time that my appointment was made, I was told that the doctor only accepted cash & money orders. I sent my $85 copay well in advance of my scheduled appointment. I paid for tracking, so I know that the doctor received my money on time. When the day of my appointment rolled around, I cut my work day short in order to be available for Dr. Jelen. Several minutes after the time of my appointment, I still hadn't received a call. I called the office and was told by the receptionist that Dr. Jelen was not going to talk to me; she was no longer accepting "specialty patients "!?!? After telling the receptionist that what she was saying made absolutely no sense, and reminding her that Dr. Jelen had already received my money, the woman said that "Dr. Jelen is no longer with us". She said that "they" (who's "they"?) were supposed to notify me, but she could see that I hadn't been notified. I asked her about the money that I had paid in advance; I was told that it had been mailed back to me. I've been waiting for a week now - no sign of my money. I can request a refund from Western Union, but I would have to pay a $15 fee. I will be filing a complaint with my health insurance company later today.
I saw this doctor during 2018-19 for thyroid. Hopefully this doctor is no longer practicing medicine. She's a nice lady but an appointment with her meant I would be spending my entire day sitting in her very shabby and sketchy-neighborhood waiting room. She always ran hours behind schedule and I could expect to spend 5 hours in her clinic. The staff was not friendly or helpful. The doctor talked a lot about her abilities and family, with her assistant constantly interrupting to hurry her along. She ended up discontinuing my visits after a year stating my thyroid was fine. I'm now on Thyroid medication prescribed by my GP. I now need to find another thyroid doctor that takes my insurance.
I am leaving a 1 star because it doesn't have the option for 0 stars. I have been waiting since November 2022 and it's now end of July 2023 and still haven't had my first consult. I've been rescheduled 6 times in a period of 5 weeks. This is ridiculous. I am not a Patient who complains and I am very understanding since I work in the medical field as well. So I get that offices tend to get super busy. But this is just neglect. This Dr doesn't deserve her medical license if this is how she operates. I definitely will be reporting her for neglect.
My mother's insurance assigned this doctor office to her and I made an appointment over 3 months ago (the appointment date is today - 7-20-2023 at 10:15am). My mother is 80 years old and a diabetic most of her life. She is on 9 different medications and needs to inject insulin everyday. She moved to US so I can take care of her and we have been waiting to speak to an endocrinologist for a long time. We have her blood test done before the appointment and I made sure my mother's primary care physician to send them everything. But guess what, same as the other reviews here, Christine (the office staff) called on the date and time of the appointment and told me my mother's appointment is cancelled because "the office never received any medical record from the PCP office". That was a lie or an attempt to hide mess-up in her office. I told her I have all my mother's medical notes and blood test results and the list of her existing medications and I could send everything over immediately and that did not change anything. She basically wanted to hang up on me and moved on to call other people to deliver more bad news. What I also don't understand is - how come the staff and the doctor cannot check what is missing before the appointment date so that there is still time to get them anything they want. This shows how incompetent this office is. In addition, Christine was extremely rude and would constantly talked over you. She got even more mad when I asked for her name and asked to speak to her supervisor (which she declined). I told her that my mother is running out of her medication and she is literally killing not only my mother and maybe other patients in her office and she responded with "well". Just "well" - can you believe that? She has no sympathy on my mother's situation and basically no compassion nor ethics to work in this industry. All the doctors in this office may be good doctors (I would not know since our appointment got canceled), but having staff like Christine is such a shame. I had filed a complaint on this office with the medical board (https://www.dca.ca.gov/consumers/complaints/medbd.shtml) and I encourage everybody to do the same. We need to raise enough voices in the hope that someone can do the right thing and correct this staffing problem.
They’ve canceled three Telehealth appointments for my mother. They left us on hold for hours only to hang up. They are guilty of medical neglect. They’ve left my mother seven months without endocrine care with uncontrolled blood sugar. The address is wrong here too, they are at 2222 not 2220. But it doesn’t matter if you know where they are, they won’t let you in, even if you have an appointment. Stay far away!
My experience with this office and staff has been unpleasant! Receptionist(Cristine, Ana) lack courtesy and professionalism. Waited 3 months for an initial appointment. Scheduled 3 phone appts. That never took place. Receptionist denied my scheduled appointments. After reading all other reviews. It's pretty obvious that these receptionist have no empathy for others. Think they can treat people with no regard and get away with it. Not this time Filed a complaint, received notice of Ana's response. Which were all false statements. Will follow through with the next step of action necessary. This office should not be operating. This kind of Service should not be tolerated!! Don't allow this kind of treatment You have a voice! -1 star Happy to go elsewhere.
When she was still alive she was so attentive, empathetic and really listened to the patient. She stressed why blood lab work is so important in assisting a true diagnosis. RIP DR JELEN. I am so sorry you are no longer here. She was a good one. ????
After two months of waiting to see Dr. Betty Jelen, two days before, I received a message saying the first appointment was going to be A telecommunication appointment I asked if she would see my lab and biopsy results, and Anna, who answers the phone and makes the appointments said no, she won't care about any studios of any other doctor, and she will order new ones. I waited for the doctor's call for almost two hours and decided to call to confirm she was going to call me; Anna told me that the doctor was behind schedule, but she had me on her list of phone consultations for today, May 9th, 2023. I waited 4 hours for her call, and my phone never rang. It's 19.33, and I am still waiting for the doctor to call me. What I have is time sensitive; I might have a nasty tumor. I asked Anna many times for any cancellations so I could be seen as soon as possible, and only when I was lucky to get Anna to answer the phone and not be transmitted to a full voice mail, with no option to leave voice mails. Two months is a long period of time for a nasty tumor. I hope no one has to regret this bad ethics. Avoid this "clinic." They don't treat you with Courtesy at all; they make you feel they are doing you a favor!
I am a member of the (Medicare)Humana/Prospect Medical Group and they authorized diabetes treatment via Betty Jelen MD at 2220 East 1st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90033. The approval was issued February 6, 2023 so I called Dr. Jelen's office and left a message that I wanted to make an appointment. Several days went by and there was no return call so I called again and spoke with a receptionist. She said that the next available appoints were in April, so I made an appointment for Thursday, April 13th at 3pm, and made arrangements for a ride to her office. A couple days before the appointment I received a robo-call confirming my appointment and then notifying me that it was a telehealth appointment. Boy, was I surprised. So I called her office to verify but there was no answer so I left a message -- and again there was no return call. I called a couple more times and finally got through and the receptionist said yes, all appointments were electronic. When I said no-one had told me that that was the case,, she said that the office had been closed for quite some time. Thursday, April 13 arrives, and there's no call from Dr. Jelen. At 4:30 I call the office and the receptionist tells me that Dr. Jelen was way behind schedule and that we would have to reschedule. So we rescheduled for Tuesday, April 18, at 10 am. Tuesday 10am rolls by, 11am, noon, 1, then 2, and still no call. So I call again and the receptionist says that the Dr. is way behind but that she will for sure get back to me. I then ask why no calls to appraise me of the situation and her response is "the doctor will call you." It never happened and I have heard nothing from them since. I called Prospect medical Group and Humana and complained to them, and they found another endocrinologist. I also filed a complaint against Dr. Jelen for negligence. Diabetes management is no joke and can be life-threatening and her caviler attitude to her patients is negligent. I urge everyone who has had such a bad experience with her (and it looks like there are many) to file a complaint with the Medical Board of California. - 1 star Aside from this review I've filed a complaint. Insensitive and unprofessional receptionists. Rarely answer phones, no call return. Took 3 months for a phone appointment only. The Doctor seems to not commit to scheduled appointments. As I never received a phone call for three appointments. The receptionist was rude, denied my scheduled appointments. Even though I received a text reminder of appt. and took no accountability. What are they getting paid for?! Why is this office still open?! Do they pick and choose patients ?!. UNACCEPTABLE! PATIENTS SHOULD NOT BE TREATED IN THIS MANNER. THIS TYPE OF (NON)SERVICE SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED AND NEEDS TO BE REPORTED.
