Dr. Shum a great human being. He's compassionate and kind. He treats his patient with care and kindness.

What a refreshing visit! This doctor to the time to listen to all of my ailments. He discussed every question I had about what kind of testing and treatment. There are only 5 stars but I'd rate him a solid 6 or 7! He is so ahead of the curve....

I'm not sure what the persons bellow situation is. I have have been a patient on the oncology institute first in West Covina under Dr. Reynolds for several years then have just started with Dr. Shum. Both offices and doctors have been excellent. The office was very nice, the staff are prompt and actually have a sense of humor if you try. I was extremely late the first visit, and they still squeezed me in,, rather than create a new appointment months away. Dr. Shum took time to explain the answer to my question and listened when I asked for a medication change. I wouldn't change anything in the services I have received.

BEWARE CANCER PATIENTS. DR. MERRILL SHUM AND HIS STAFF ARE NOT SINCERE OR COMPASHIONATE WHEN IT COMES TO MONEY. MY BLOOD RESULTS ARE BEING HELD HOSTAGE BY HIS STAFF BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD A $95 CO-PAY. HIS OFFICE MANAGER RACHEL/RAQUEL TOLD ME TODAY THAT I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO SPEAK OR TALK TO DR. MERRILL SHUM. I WAS HUNG UP ON BY 3 OF HIS RECEPTIONIST TODAY AND NOT ONE OF THEM TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE HAVING PHONE SYSTEM PROBLEMS. I HAD TO FIND OUT BY GOING INTO THE FACILITY. i HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET MY RESULTS OF MY BLOOD DRAW FOR OVER A MONTH NOW, WITH MANY DEAD ENDS FROM HIS CORPORATE OFFICE. KRISTIAN THE RECEPTIONIST SAID SHE WOULD HAVE CAROLINA, WHO IS A SUPERVISOR FOR COMPLAINTS, GIVE ME A CALL BACK. NEVER GOT A CALL BACK FROM CAROLINA. I ASKED IF THE HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER (GONZALO) COULD GIVE ME A CALL BACK AND NEVER HEARD FROM HIM EITHER. SO IF ANYONE READS THIS AND IS GOING THRU HARD TIMES, MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY FOR WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN HERE.

Because of a blood condition that I have, I have been going to the Oncology Institute for the past four or five years. I never have to wait exceptionally long (usually not longer than 15 min.) and I always receive excellent service from all staff members.

Dr Shum is a great Doctor and the facility is very accommodating. They take very good care of my Husband & Aunt.

I honestly have not met a more amazing doctor. I saw him TWO times after being diagnosed and after coming from a “hot shot” Beverly Hills oncologist, Dr Shum was 5 stars! He spent so much time with us going through treatment options, pluses and minuses of each treatment method, and was patient and pleasant. Amazing bedside manner which other doctors DO NOT have. He even thinks “outside the box” which many doctors do not. I don’t have enough amazing words to describe how good I feel with my choice. He is simply amazing and in a time of need like this we need that!

I am an ovarian cancer patient and have been with Dr Shum for about 5 years. He has been very compassionate and caring throughout my various treatments of chemo and radiation. The staff and nurses are all very kind and professional. I would recommend this doctor to my friends.
