I desperately turned to my local allergy clinic for help, where I had been a long-time patient. My urgent pleas were not taken seriously, and I was never able to see the doctor. In the face of this dismissive response, I sought assistance from an urgent care clinic and my primary care physician. Both directed me to consult an allergist, which led me to Dr. Smith, the other allergist in town. My experience with Dr. Smith and his team was truly remarkable. They promptly scheduled an appointment for me. At the appointment, Dr. Smith attentively listened to my symptoms and my attempts at treatment. Recognizing the severity of my situation, he immediately sent a prescription to the pharmacy and even administered the first dose on-site for faster relief. Moreover, he outlined an enhanced antihistamine regimen to prevent future flare ups. To ensure comprehensive care, he confirmed that I had been granted an immediate appointment when I had initially called in distress. While my previous allergist may very well have been equally skilled, the inability to see him due to the inattentiveness and dismissiveness of his team was a significant failing. In stark contrast, every member of Dr. Smith's practice, from the receptionists to the nurses, took me seriously when I said I needed urgent help, despite having no prior history with me as a patient. If you like Robo calls you can’t understand and miscommunication in the office that this is the perfect place for you. The medical staff is great here sadly the office is so dysfunctional it makes you not want to deal with that.

I have never seen the Doctor. When I had my infusions done there. The nurse they had then was an absolute kind hearted person. I was very disappointed at my last visit. Not particularly with the person that cared for me, but the way things were handled. Then, today I called and somehow during making the appointment the receptionist was rude. She actually said she was not there to argue when the mistake was hers.

Smith Allergy is possibly one of the worst medical institutions I have ever attended. The office staff are incredibly rude and unprofessional, and the medical assistants don’t seem to know what they are doing. I came in for a routine checkup as I had moved to the area, and despite reading about the significant progress I had made with my existing course of treatment, Dr. Smith completely changed my medications and I was no longer able to control my asthma as effectively. I incredibly disappointing given how much the doctor tries to emphasize his research and awards, when he can’t even recommend a decent course of treatment that will HELP! And don’t get me started on the billing department — you can never actually get in touch with them, and when you do, half the time they don’t know what they are talking about. Somehow, they billed my visits to the wrong insurance company! I have no idea how this happened, but it did and I was so confused when I heard. Overall, my experience with Smith Allergy & Asthma has been dismal. I highly recommend anyone looking for an allergist AVOID this office.

If I could give these Smith Allergy and Asthma Specialists 0 stars, I would. I honestly don't know how the medical side of the office is, but the billing department is completely incompetent. My son is a student in Ithaca. He was seen 3 times at Smith Allergy. They were supposed to bill BC/BS of Central NY (Excellus). They only billed Excellus for one date of service and Excellus paid on it! I'm getting bills now for the other 2 dates of service which, for some reason unknown to me and the insurance company, have never been billed to Excellus. I've tried multiple times to call them, leaving messages and never get a response. The insurance company has done the same and has never gotten a response. All we get is ERIN FORTIER's voicemail. In addition to all of this, I made a payment of $293.73 on June 6, 2022 and they never posted it (I have a cancelled check for it) and my son made all 3 co-pays (I have proof of that) and they never recorded that either. I'm at the point where I'm going to have to contact my attorney to get this straightened out.
