Leaving my wife, Angela, in a room waiting for more than one hour with an appointment and not checking on her is unprofessional. You decided to have a meeting instead and ignored her. Your room had bugs and the toilet is filthy. What kind of dump are you running with bugs and filth? I wonder what the health inspectors would say about being like this for patients to visit.
He is an okay doctor, but customer service is lacking, prescription service is lacking, and it has felt like (for the better part of a year) he's all about milking his patients for as much money as he and his friends (and pharmaceutical sponsors) can get, rather than being a decent doctor and adhering to his Hippocratic oath. You have done harm, sir. I'm getting a new primary care.
My first bad review of an establishment EVER. Initially tried scheduling an appointment online, which was canceled the next day with no reason being given. I was just sent an email that it was “not approved”. So I call to get on schedule. They had an appointment available same week which was fantastic. Now I know why they’ve got so many appointments readily available. Upon check in I’m handed a clipboard with the first form asking me for card information. This is after they took a $50 “deposit” from me over the phone just to get the appointment scheduled. Then I see this sign posted not on the wall, but flat on the front desk counter. I verified my insurance with the office days before my appointment. Sent over pictures of my insurance as well. Which is a PPO. My appointment was scheduled as a new patient appointment. I ask how I’m going to be billed for my scheduled visit, and am advised that it will be billed as an urgent care visit. I asked why and mentioned how I felt it was dishonest for them to bill that way. The energy immediately changed and I gave them back the clipboard and again asked why a pre scheduled new patient appointment would be able to be billed as urgent care through my insurance. It seemed like insurance fraud and a major money grab. The Dr (and owner) of the business finally comes out to speak with me but from behind a glass shouting across the waiting room. I was advised by front desk to call my insurance, which I sat in the waiting room to do quietly. Unfortunately the Dr was unwilling to allow me the time. He asked if I was ready to be seen to which I asked how my visit would be billed. He was unable to say. He then threatened to cancel my appointment since I was keeping him waiting (on the phone with my insurance as they advised). I asked if he was going to charge a cancellation fee of $75 if he canceled my appointment. He had the audacity to say he would. So I said I’m not canceling. I showed up for my appointment and it would then be dishonest of them to charge me a cancellation fee. HORRIBLE experience. A patient needs to be able to trust their medical providers. I then asked for my $50 “deposit” back since the Dr said he “had somewhere to be” and couldn’t wait for me to verify what they couldn’t. Oddly enough, my appointment was scheduled over an hour before the listed closing time of the Dr. Office. I got my deposit back, but not before another patient came in upset about nobody answering the phones. What WAS posted up for everyone to see clearly was a sign offering incentives for leaving a five star review of them on Google.
I have been coming here for the past year and it has been nothing but a great experience. Dr. Schanen & his entire staff make you feel comfortable and answer all the questions you might have.
Dr. Schanen and his team, at Innovative Primary Care in San Antonio, have done a great job taking care of the medical needs of my family and me since 2022. They are always, friendly, helpful, and willing to listen and discuss any and all medical needs and concerns. We feel lucky to have found them.
I have never been to a cracker box location like this before in my life. These people don't care about you. I've spent a month trying to coordinate a health care specialist with them but everytime they refer me to a doctor i call to make the appointment and it's not in network. I had my insurance company call innovative primary care directly to provide a specialist in network yet innovative primary care tells me they are not in there network. Not sure how that is if my blue cross blue shield agent called them directly to provide the doctors names and information. The response and follow up has been minimal on there end and when i do call frustrated with the service i am told they have other patients, Well hey i've been waiting to be seen by a specialist for over a month now. Care providers should be better than this and the staff that sits in front should be doing more than joking around and start utilizing their time better to serve patients with scheduling needs. The 2 times i have been in the facility i was not impressed. I do not and will not recommend this place to anyone. Not only do they provide insufficient service they are liars too. Read there comments on my google review stating I didn't have insurance these people are a pathetic establishment and will blatantly lie to try to protect there own negligence. I had insurance yall just can't do your jobs correctly. None of y'all especially whoever responded to my google review should be employed in a medical setting.

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Schanen. He is extremely professional, attentive, and truly takes the time to listen to his patients and explain everything clearly. From the very beginning, I felt that I was in very good hands. Thanks to his care and expertise, my quality of life has truly changed for the better. I’m incredibly grateful for the difference he has made in my health and well-being. The staff is also very kind and welcoming. I highly recommend Dr. Schanen to anyone looking for someone who genuinely cares about their patients.
We enjoy working with their patients who need physical therapy. Their doctor and staff are exemplary and stand out amongst the rest. We highly recommend them for primary care needs.
Dr. Schanen is wonderful and really listens to my concerns. He's a doctor focused on the whole patient's wellness rather than just symptoms.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
