Doctor Basma has been making me smile and laugh as I progressively heal in her care. The first time I came to the office for my first appointment, I was still in a lot of pain and shock from my accident but instantly I was met with what felt like a breath of fresh air - her expertise and comforting assurance made me able to ease for a little, it made me feel like I would be safe from here on. Throughout it all I learned what she said in the beginning about how healing is a non-linear process and that during bad days I should be kind to myself and my journey and how my body should be taken care of nicely in small gestures like not pushing through when I feel pain and the right sequence and angle of stepping and moving for my knee injuries.
Her expertise and careful attention led her to alleviate one of my biggest pains by eliminating my habits such as the hyperextension of my knee and continuing to do something that is painful, both things that are detrimental to my injury and it is with her focus and care that she is able to catch these during strengthening exercises to correct and help encourage moving in the constructive wholesome ways that bolster my healing and avoid injuries down the line.
I am most thankful for the care that she put into this discipline, especially as a dancer with an injury. As they say, “all it takes is one person to believe in you”, and I would say that was the case for my knees. When my pain needed to be heard, seen, and helped, even when it is of a faint whisper, Doctor Basma was there to give all that it needed and more, and she continues to be there. I am most grateful.
