Dr. Allen is a wizard at the microsurgery part of his practice. However, he either is not as into, or not as skilled at the second stage which is more cosmetic. He also with my experience allowed another physician studying with him for her Medical Board Certification, pretty much run my consult during my second stage. This was despite my direct request to not have any physician that was not board certified work on me. Her manner during this consult was rude and abrasive (Dr. Maria Lotempio). She completely disregarded my concerns and invalidated almost anything I said. Both my husband and I were appalled that Dr. Allen allowed this to go on (he was sitting right there in the room), and we were confused as to why she, rather than he, was leading the consult. It was also unknown to me that Dr. Lotempio was the co-surgeon during my second stage, again this was after I had made clear to his office staff that I did not want her anywhere near me either in the office and certainly not in the operating room. My results from my second stage were less that satisfying and it lead me to believe that she had been allowed to do some (or all) of the surgery. Dr. Allen denies this. Dr. Allen is a genuis at the microsurgery and I will be forever grateful for his skill and ability to give me back breast that are indeed my own. But...I am sad to say that due to his lack of skill? care? in the second stage I have had both emotional and physical pain to deal with since the surgery. I am now incurring additional financial hardship to travel to other surgeons to correct the work that Dr. Allen did on me. I would not hesitate to recommend him for the microsurgery, but would not recommned him for the second stage or any cosmetic follow-up work.
