Hands down the best doctor I’ve ever had the privilege of seeing. What makes doctor Melford so impressive to me isn’t just his expertise (he is, of course, extremely knowledgeable but this should be expected of any medical doctor). What sets Dr Melford apart is the fact that after 20+ years of practicing medicine, he still manages to bring kindness, patience, and a great attitude to all of his interactions with patients. Although unfortunate, I do understand why many doctors become burnt out, desensitized, and even cynical after many years of working with the public. MOST of the doctors I’ve interacted with over the years seem to be “on autopilot” at least somewhat, interactions often feel rushed, and asking too many questions is met with annoyance. It’s clear to me that Dr Melford is a special kind of person, as during every interaction with him I’ve felt seen and heard in a way that I’ve never experienced with other doctors in the past. Dr Melford seems to be truly present in the room with you, gives his full attention to any questions/concerns you might have, and responds with thoughtful, honest answers. This combination of genuine patience and compassion is unfortunately SO hard to find in healthcare nowadays and it is SO refreshing when you’re able to find it in Dr Melford. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking care from a cardiologist.

Caring I have been a patient of Dr. Medford for two years. I feel so fortunate to have been referred to him by my primary physician. I can’t say enough about Dr. Melford. He is professional, friendly, and he cares about his patients. When I first went to him, he diagnosed my problem, he explained it to me in terms I could understand and he gave me alternatives to address my issue. He has great bedside manner, and he never makes you feel like you are being rushed.

All my doctors are, of course, very skilled professionals, but there is always some awkwardness in my visits. Doctors don't need to have a great personality, and many of mine don't, so it's always refreshing to visit Dr Melford. He's a friendly 'pat on the back' physician who listens to me and makes me feel comfortable about asking questions. He always leaves me smiling and confident in his skills and decisions. I'm convinced that he is personally invested in my well-being. He obviously likes helping people and loves his job.

Dr. Melford saved my life twice when going through breast cancer and chemco. No other words are necessary. Bless you my "son".

Dr. Melford is very academic and resolves issues through his vast knowledge. He is very committed and available to analyze and prescribe cutting edge and immediate and long term solutions. He is dedicated and will contact you personally to discuss matters at hand. I highly recommend him for managing and prolonging life through cutting edge care

Dr. Melford is fantastic! I moved to CA in March 2019 after years in AZ, where I'd had a pacemaker implanted, relocated twice and removed because the pain never stopped. I was told that I could never have another pacemaker because the scar tissue was too severe. Doc quote: "You're all used up." As a quadriplegic since 1970, I know I'm complicated and figured my time just might be up. After moving here, I broke down & had to be admitted as an emergency. Dr. Melford and the equally brilliant surgeon, Dr. Frumin, assured my wife and me that a new pacemaker could be easily put in and then did it so expertly (it hurt less right after surgery than the old scars hurt now), it was like a miracle. I had felt like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz: there's nothing in that bag for me. Now, I feel I'm in the land of better wizards! Thank you, Dr. Melford!

South Orange County Cardiology Dr. Ryland Melford, M.D. is extremely brilliant and the BEST cardiologist!  Dr. Melford is Chief of Cardiology of Saddleback Memorial Hospital. His areas of expertise are Heart failure,  Transplant, Cardio thoracic, Vascular, etc.  Dr Melford extended and saved my life by giving me the most thorough and complete heart diagnosis ever in my life!  He informed me of my true heart condition  where other heart drs had missed his expert diagnosis. He is very thorough in his patient assessment, kind, with a sincere bedside manner. Dr Melford is a valuable asset with an exemplary dedication to his field, his patients, Saddleback Hospital, South County Cardiology Group and saving lives. I am thankful  to have finally found the best cardiologist!
