This office is impossible to schedule with. I received a referral in July 2024 and never heard back. After following up with my PCP, they resent the referral, and someone finally called me in early August. The earliest available appointment was in October, but a week before the appointment, it was canceled. I rescheduled for November, and on the morning of that appointment, they canceled again. To make matters worse, they only send text messages to notify you of cancellations—no calls to explain or help reschedule. After this frustrating and unprofessional experience, I gave up and went elsewhere.
After going to the emergency room for an issue with my eye I was given a list of referrals in the area and told to follow up with an ophthalmologist immediatly. I've been trying to get somone to answer the phone all morning to schedule an appointment but nobody will answer.
Arrived for my appointment and was brought back to the examination room. There, a very nice person checked some things and preped me for the doctor. Then, I waited and waited and waited.... after almost 40 minutes, and feeling forgotten about, I looked outside in the hallway and no one was in any room I could see. No one checked on me to let me know they were running late or if there was an emergent issue and needed to reschedule. Nothing. I ended up just leaving. We've all been there and just the lack of respect for patients is so frustrating. My advice, find another place where they respect and appreciate you. ****Added Follwing Response *** i am not a new patient and 40+ minutes is not an acceptable wait time for either a new or current patient.
Seeing all the negative reviews was really no surprise. When the tech gets frustrated with my elderly Father in Law with Parkinsons to the absolute clown show of Dr. Winkler, the professionalism and care was beyond poor. Dr. Winkler just walked in, said nothing and started grilling the patient over his new complaint. He never allowed the patient to explain, gave a 8 minute eye exam, and made it obvious he was in a rush and we were not important. Obvious. Hope to never go back in there and hope someone from this practice reads these reviews and retrains staff starting with Winkler. Had I been the patient I would have walked out on you.
I've called on two different days to try and make an appointment in at two completely different hours when I'm available and can never get through to a live person. I can't wait for a call back at a time that I might not be available. Please update your phone system so that people can actually get ahold of someone when they call in.
I was referred by my neurologist due to severe headaches and I have been trying to make an urgent appt for a week. I work Mo-Fri 8-5, which are also their business hours, and on three separate occasions when I have found the time during those hours, I have called and waited on hold and nobody answered the phone any of the three times. After 15 min, they don’t allow you to wait any longer so you can leave a voicemail or request a call back. I did this and they returned my call when I was busy with my own patients and was unable to answer the phone. When I tried to call back, same thing. As someone in the healthcare profession, this is not good practice. Someone should be available to answer your call during their business hours. I don’t recommend wasting your time trying to schedule here. I understand there is currently a staffing shortage in the healthcare profession, but if this is the case there should be an online scheduling option but there is not.
This place rocks!
DO NOT USE ARIZONA EYE SPECIALIST! This was our first time using Arizona Eye Specialist, initially at their Baseline, Gilbert office. This will be the last time we use Arizona Eye Specialist for our annual eye exams or anything to do with our eye care. My spouse Pamela was diagnosed with dry eyes by Dr. Elliott Janousek, and was prescribed Xiidra for this condition. This medication costs $2,140 for a 3 month supply, and caused her eyes to constantly tear. Next, the eye glass sales person, Glenna M., sold Pamela eyeglass frames that when the lens were installed, would continually slide down her nose. We went back to Glenna to report this condition. Glenna stated that Arizona Eye Specialist would not exchange the frames for ones that would stay on her nose. Glenna's only solution was to have Pamela come back weekly to have the temples on the frames tightened. The eyeglass showroom is located on Brown Rd, in Mesa, which is 16 miles each way from our home. NOT CONVENIENT to do every week. Today, 06/07/24, Glenna stated again that Arizona Eye Specialist would not replace the eyeglass frames and stated that Woolf Eye Care Center may be able to correct the frame issue. This is an unacceptable way to run an optometrist office! Based on our past experience, I am sure that I will not receive a response from Arizona Eye Specialists.
The staff here was phenomenal, I felt very comfortable. The nurse did most of the work and was great. The actual doctor on the other hand... He did basically nothing and he was kind of creepy and judgemental. Update: When I had asked the eye doctor about one of my symptoms, he said "that's normal". It turns out I have a serious condition and I have now been scheduled with a neurologist. Do. Not. Trust. These. People.
Don't like waiting on hold for 20 minutes and then getting an answering machine during business hours. Congratulations on being so busy that you don't need new customers.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
