Dr Pockaj is excellent in my book...I had a very complicated case and she did a terrific job for in all areas...education of the type of cancer, potential involvement of EDS (connective tissue disorder), had me see experts at Mayo involving EDS and communicated everything. She's wonderful!

Dr. Pockaj is very professional and she's compassionate. She's not only detailed in her explanations of my options and surgical plan but a great listener as well. I've heard absolutely nothing but positive comments about her anytime I mentioned who my surgeon was from other doctors to nurse staff to the appt desk personnel. Excellent reputation that she certainly lives up to. She was the first face I saw after waking from breast cancer surgery, and she said "it's all gone". She's amazing.

A few months ago, someone very close to me was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma in-Situ. Immediately following the diagnosis I thought about where we should seek treatment options. I know from my reading in the past that the Mayo Clinic is rated as one of the best hospitals in the U.S. Since they have a location near where I live in Arizona, I decided I would start with them. As it turned out we were able to get an appointment with Dr Pockaj. Dr Pockaj briefed us on the options and ultimately it was decided to go with a single mastectomy. I won't go into the nightmare that this entire situation brought since this is not the proper forum for that sort of expression - but I will say that Dr Pockaj and Dr Kreymerman are the two most amazing Doctors I have ever met. Both Dr's did an amazing job during surgery. Dr Pockaj spent over 4 hours removing the tissue meticulously and was able to spare the skin and keep all circulation. I saw her after surgery and it was clear she was exhausted from how much extra time she spent during the skin sparing process. Dr Kreymerman also did an amazing job during the reconstruction and on the scars. I cant say enough about both Doctors. I expected Doctors from Mayo to be smart but arrogant. That was simply not the case. Dr Pockaj is very smart and is even working towards a breast cancer vaccine in her research. When you meet her in person she is this little person and yet you can feel her presence as soon as she comes in the room. Like all logic driven brilliant people she can be direct in her communication, but I think a patient is better served by that when talking about cancer. During our visits not once did we ever feel rushed and the more we got to know her the more we got to see her dry sense of humor. She really is a nice person that cares for her patients. I can not emphasize enough that if you are in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, and you receive a diagnosis of breast cancer, and your medical benefits allows for the Mayo clinic, you must try to get an appointment with Dr Barbara Pockaj for General Surgery and Dr Peter Kreymerman for breast reconstruction. They are truly talented professionals. I can honestly say that neither one of us believe we would have gotten the same result from others Doctors at another hospital. And most importantly, as a result, this very special person of mine is going to make a complete recovery.
