I am one of the unfortunate percentage that acquired a serious post-surgical infection following a routine hip replacement. The entire experience was a nightmare. The only bright spot was Dr. Symington, who was assigned to me in the hospital and who not only made an accurate diagnosis, but who took the time to educate me and always answered my questions thoroughly. He also has a great sense of humor, which is not the first attribute that comes to mind when you think of someone who studies bacteria and viruses for a living. It's a good thing I like him and have such confidence in him, since I will most likely be on suppression treatment the rest of my life and will be seeing him for many years to come.
