Dr. Thompson completely changed my belief of what excellent therapy could actually be. She is the sharpest, most empathetic, kind, quick witted, visibly perceptive, administratively diligent and professional psychiatrist I have worked with in my 20+ years of psychotherapy and medication management from adolescence to adulthood. She has a warm deeply caring tone and inflection, sincerity, absolute razor sharp recall of medications and their interactions and efficacy - it’s always so reassuring and impressive to see her brain work every week. She doesn’t deserve an anonymous, cowardly two star review. So felt compelled to write this.
Some context: I’ve had a veritable Whitman’s Sampler of top professionals in Manhattan and LA either as a full patient myself or working with equally complex family members. I’ve seen psychiatrists and psychopharmacologists from almost every Ivy League school, have a brilliant autodidactic parent who has read every DSM cover to cover and would run the board like IBM Watson against those Ivy Leaguers in a game of psychiatric Jeopardy.
I’ve seen CBT therapists and LCSWs, had an inpatient stay following a manic episode at a top-tier New England facility where I saw long white-coat physicians amble from room to room with the interest and energy of mediocre substitute teachers and superintendents visiting underperforming hopeless school districts, and doctors with prescription pads super-glued to their palms because they’re happy to throw some benzos at you and call it a day.
It can take a while to find the right match and I’ve hardly been hopping from one doc to another searching for a quick fix all these years. Finding Dr. Thompson since moving to LA 3 years ago has brought me so much closer to the stability and personal understanding that I’ve wanted for most of my life. There’s alway more work and management to do, but I’m looking forward to it. I can’t thank her enough.
