I presented with edema, new onset migraines and new onset elevated blood pressure which climbed throughout my pregnancy. I had protein in my urine, which actually turned brown and syrup like with decreased output on my final presentation before having to be emergently delivered. At that meeting, he told me that I was "out of shape" (aka fat) and that this was the cause of my issues... not preeclampsia. He told me my migraines were related to pseudotumor cerebri, which is a condition frequent in obese people. Then he told me I had essential hypertension, even though I never was hypertensive until pregnancy. What he couldn't explain was my lab results and sudden and dangerous spiking of blood pressure that occurred within a couple of hours of all of his dismissive comments related to my weight (which went up significantly during pregnancy largely due to edema... I lost 30 pounds in 2 weeks after delivery). When he saw me after I delivered, he made no apologies for his variety of misdiagnosis. He didn't even look at my baby, who I was holding. He was cavalier about my medical situation. Thank God he was not the only provider seeing me. He was wrong on every single count.
