Entering recovery was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. It was also one of the smartest, and one I wish that I had made 20 years ago. I spent three months at SOBA in the winter of 2020-21 for rehab and sober-living. Last week I reached my 10 month clean date. I’d like to express my gratitude to the following staff members who helped me along the way: At Duke, to Christine and Danielle, who I connected with early on, to Kayla who always had extra time for me on my most difficult days, to Keith for giving me some indispensable advice, to Jess, my first therapist, who made me feel safe enough to confide in. At Morrell, to Kim, my second therapist, who helped me to navigate the difficult emotions that followed, to Jackie for her dedication and help in getting me ready for the next leg of my journey, to Rachel for her kindness and humor, to Michelle for being the mom of the house, and to Bob, who spent countless hours talking to me when I had the urge to give up, isolate or just needed to chat. I'm forever grateful to you all.
